Automation systems that leveragestate-of-the-art technology andpractices can improve the overallfinancial performance of a manufactur-ing facility. Keeping your processautomation technology current can befaster, easier, and more economicalthan you think. Migration solutionsfrom Siemens can help your companyeasily migrate your current TDC 3000DCS and have your plant back inoperation, usually in less than a day, without any modification or rework tothe field instrumentation wiring.

    Reduce Total Cost of Ownership

Older automation systems rely on datedtechnology and replacement parts andcomponents that are difficult to obtain. Also, effective vendor-supplied trainingand technical support resourcesdiminish quickly after the installation ofa new system. This is not true withSiemens. Migration services fromSiemens help manufacturers set up and

administer their new and improveddesign and stay with the end userthroughout the lifecycle of the newsystem.

As a result of such system migrationand innovation, Siemens customers canrealize the following:

    Improved production throughput

    Reduced training requirements

    Improved time to market

    Improved operator efficiency

    Reduced maintenance risk

    Decreased cost on replacementparts

    Reduced cycle time

    Minimized IT support costs

    Improve Return on Assets (ROA)

Siemens helps reduce the risk tomanufacturing operations whileimproving your bottom line. Siemensapplies unmatched expertise inmigration and implementationstrategies to your automation systems.Above all, Siemens wants to improvethe productivity and profitability of yourcompany. The end result of the Siemensmigration strategy for processautomation is a field-proven andglobally accepted process control

system that leaverages the latest ininnovative technology while allowingthe end user to determine what assetsshould remain. Siemens works closelywith you to devise a migration plantailored to your needs that best meetsyour plans, schedule, and budget. Thisallows you to replace your existingsystem in a stepwise approach withminimal impact to your operations.

    Honeywell to Siemens

Siemens offers migration strategiesfrom the Honeywell TDC 3000 to theSIMATIC PCS 7 process control systemto bring the latest control technology toyour plant while minimizing thedowntime required to implement a newsystem.

To avoid lost production, the cutover ormigration from an existing controlsystem to a new system has to beaccomplished in the shortest time

possible with minimal impact tomanufacturing operations. One of themost time-consuming tasks in a typicalmigration project is reworking the fieldinstrumentation wiring over to the newsystem. Migration Services fromSiemens offers several solutions to helpyou manage this challenge.

    Avoid Field Rewiring

The Siemens migration solution leavesyour field wiring and original Honeywellfield termination assembly (FTA)cabinets in place and simply replacesthe old FTA boards with new SiemensFTA boards. The Siemens FTA boards arethe same size and have the sameterminal blocks and mounting-holedimensions as the old Honeywell FTAboards. The original, wired terminalblocks are plugged into the new FTAboards which are in turn connected to

PCS 7 I/O modules in a new cabinet. Noadditional cabinet requirements areneeded for the new terminationsbecause there is a 1 to 1 replacement. The space, which is fixed and has beenin place for several years, can beretrofitted to accomodate the new fieldtermination. This strategy eliminatesthe time and high cost of rewiring thefield devices.

    Reduce Production Downtime

Replacement Field TerminationAssembly (FTA) boards and interconnectcables are available to support thismigration solution. The new cables pluginto matching PCS 7 I/O modules, duplicating the original control systemhardware. From this point, the systemcan now utilize the latest processcontrol technology from Siemens, suchas the Siemens PCS 7 hardware, usingthe powerful S7-400 controller and thePCS 7 Windows-based operator

station. The PCS 7 system can bequickly brought online and productionresumed in usually one day.

    Speed Checkout and Startup

Since the field wiring terminations aretested prior to the changeover andremain unchanged, the need for re-engineering is reduced by theconversion tools in PCS 7. The controlprogram and screen displays areduplicated and converted in the newsystem. To complete the migration, the

PCS 7 controller and I/O are moved intothe existing Honeywell control cabinet.Using your proven control strategy andundisturbed field devices, systemcheckout and startup is efficient andgoes quickly.
