Digitalization – PAC’s views

SITSI Research Cluster "Internet of Things" 7 2016

Digital transformation is the adaptation of a company’s value proposition and operational model to the fundamental changes brought about by digital technologies. Digital transformation requires changes to a company’s strategy and operational model: rethinking organizational structures, business processes, value chains, and technology. And it requires a dynamic business culture of innovation, participation, and collaboration.

Digital enterprise

Digitalization = digital transformation

Internet of Things

Digital enterprise focuses on fundamentally reshaping and optimizing interactions with customers via digital channels such as web, mobile, or social media. Interactions may include content and applications, sales and commercial activities, marketing, as well as customer service.

The Internet of Things (IoT) will bring digital transformation to the production processes and the end products of companies in many different industries. By adding local intelligence to products and machines and by providing holistic platforms for data aggregation and analysis, companies will be able to transform their business models and provide new high-value services to their customers.

PAC differentiates between two aspects of digitalization: changes in customer experience, as addressed in our Digital Enterprise cluster, and new opportunities at production and product levels, as addressed in our IoT cluster.
