I write with respect to your correspondence dated 12th April 2017 and the information requested

therein.

I. A breakdown of Academic and Other staff by gender is illustrated in Appendix 1(Tables1-4.)

Please note the following.

1. This information is based on UCC's March 2017 Payroll.

2. Tables 1-4 provide a breakdown of both CORE funded and Research funded staff.

3. Student Staff Numbers are excluded from Tables 1-4 as they are shown in the Student Gender Reports.

4. Retired staff hired back are included in Tables 1-4 - as at 31 March 2017 there were 13 male retired staff and 4 female retired staff hired back by the University.

5. 12 agency staff- 11 female and 1 male - were recorded as being engaged by UCC as at 31 March 2017

II. A breakdown of UCC's Student Population by gender is illustrated in Appendix 2 - Table 5.

Please note the following.

1. This information is based on UCC's student census as at 1 March 2017 which is sent annually

to the Higher Education Authority (HEA).

2. It contains and analysis of both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.

3. Student's status (Irish/EU/Non EU) is determined by their country of domicile.

Ill. UCC's Governing body is made up of 39 members - 16 of whom are female including the

Chair- Dr Catherine Day.

IV. The current composition of UCC's Academic Council is 66 female members, 165 male

members - total 231. Please note that the composition changes continually as many

members are ex officio such as non-professorial Heads of Schools, Students' Union members.

V. UCC's Senior Management Team is made up of 12 members, 9 male and 3 female.

VI. The Board of Cork University Foundation has 5 members currently, all male.

Separately, I wish to provide additional information to that already provided to the Committee in the

correspondence of the 13th April last in respect of UCC's acquisition of the Irish Management

Institute (IMI).

Irish Management Institute - Pension

IMI is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of UCC and in common with other University subsidiaries operates a Defined Contribution [DC] scheme for its staff.

These DC Scheme [s] have no connection with and receive no contribution from the University. Neither does any liability for such schemes rest with the University. The companies as employer make a contribution to the DC Schemes and the staff contribute directly. Future pension costs are the responsibility of the subsidiary and are not a call on any University or Exchequer funding.

In the case of IMI, for those staff who were members of the IMI Defined Benefit Scheme, future pension costs rest with the Trustees of that scheme and not with the IMI. IMI has resolved all liabilities to that Scheme with its Trustees and no further call can be made on the IMI in that regard.

In one instance, however, the IMI itself has part responsibility for the ongoing costs associated with the retirement of [1] former staff member, where the historical contract position agreed between the IMI and the staff member, included a sharing of such retirement costs between the Trustees and IMI.

This is already fully reflected and disclosed in the financial statements of IMI as published by the CRO.

As outlined at the day of examination, no payments were made by UCC to any IMI pensioner and there are no ongoing pension liabilities as defined under FRS 17 following the acquisition of IMI by ucc.

Neither is there any liability for UCC with regard to the IMI Defined Benefit Scheme.
