As a global pulp and paper producer with growth and outreach over many

Our goal is to introduce at least two paper packaging innovations per year,

which is significant in the paper business. With over thirty years of experience

and research into papermaking and coatings, our engineers and application

specialists are global experts in their field. They work together with our cus-

tomers and many strategic partners worldwide to utilise the best technologies

and knowledge to develop solutions delivering optimum speciality papers and

coatings to an ever changing and growing market. We are working with experts

and partners to achieve our goals.

Our Alfeld mill is located to the south of Hanover and its origins date back

to 1706. It covers over 384.000 m2 and 800 employees. Total mill capacity:

270,000 tons a year of paper and board and 120,000 tons a year of sulphite

pulp. In recent years Alfeld Mill has been the focus of an intensive invest-

ment program to enable us to use 100% of our capacity for the production of

speciality paper and board. Importantly, we have now established in Alfeld mill

a Competence Centre for Speciality Papers and Boards.

Our product range is reinforced by consistent high quality thanks to our holistic

knowledge of paper production and the constant development of individual

recipes. Our five papermaking machines with widths from 3.3 to 4.8 meters

very efficiently produce coated and uncoated speciality papers and SBB car-

tonboards. The grammage ranges from 18 g/m2 up to 400 g/m2.

The Maastricht mill is focused on producing atelier,

a Folding Box Board (FBB) and the Ehingen mill

Sappi Europe was the first company to achieve multisite cross border FSC®/

PEFC™ certification. All European mills hold chain of custody certification

under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) and/or the Programme for the

Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC™) Schemes.

The Alfeld Mill was the first mill ever to switch to 100% TCF (Totally chlorine

free pulp bleaching).
