5th Grade ELA Summer Packet

Dear 5th Grade Families,

We wish you a relaxing and safe summer and remind you the importance of reading 20 minutes daily. Althoughit is summer, students should continue to learn and grow academically in order to retain what they have learnedover the course of this year. These activities are due on September 7, 2021 the first day of school, and willcount as the first grades in both ELA and Social Studies for Cycle 1. Other activities for the summer readinghave already been crafted making it especially important that you read the text in its entirety. It is alsoimportant to note that last September the district assessed the students based on the summer reading. Beingprepared in September will allow your student to be amazingly successful.

Boy, Everywhere chronicles their harrowing journey andstruggle to settle in a new land. Forced to sell all theirbelongings and leave their friends and beloved grandmotherbehind, Sami and his family travel across the Middle East toTurkey, where they end up in a smuggler's den.

Activity 1:

In Boy, Everywhere, we meet the main character, Sami. Howdoes Aadam’s life teach Sami about his own, both when they’re

Write a book review after reading Boy, Everywhere. What didyou enjoy about Boy, Everywhere? What would you tell a friend

Think about the story and all that Sami learns. Envision asequel to Boy, Everywhere and create a new title for a sequel.

Paint or draw a new cover. Write a paragraph (or more) to tellabout your artwork. You may also use Google Slides to craft

the new title for a sequel to Boy, Everywhere.

Grammar Review - 6 pages included. Allpages should be completed by the return ofschool. You will need to print these pagesout to complete them.

Dear Fifth Grade Mathematicians and Parent,

The fifth grade teachers are so excited to meet you in September!

Attached are the 10 links for the summer math packet that we are

asking you to complete by the first day of school, September 7. Please

complete these assignments carefully, since it will count as your first

math grade for the year.

Also, please remember to log into ALEKS for at least 20 minutes,

every day. Our last day to access ALEKS is August 16, 2021.

In addition, we are including a multiplication table for you to

study/review your facts for your fluency drills.

We are looking forward to meeting you in September and we hope

that you are ready to learn more about multiplication, division,

fractions, decimals and many more math skills.

Have a great summer…and don’t forget…math is everywhere! So

practice, and turn in your math summer assignment on the first day of
