A DESIRE TO KEEP MELISSA KIEL-ing’s children’s lunches cold until meal-time led to a business that has bolstered the por-table lunch category — and landed on Inc. Magazine’s 500|5000 list for 2014.

“Our products have completely disrupted a market that has seen little innovation since the brown bag,” said Kieling. PackIt keeps foods cool with proprietary freezable gel technology. “The success of PackIt is beyond my wildest dreams.”

Kieling launched PackIt in 2009 because she wanted a better solution for keeping her children’s food cold until lunchtime, she said, and she felt that other families would feel the same. Now, the “simple, all-in-one cooling solution” is offered in items for the lunch category, as well as for wine, picnic, grocery and baby bottles—and more is on the way.

The company was a first timer on Inc. Magazine’s 500|5000 list, which ranks the nation’s fastest-growing private compa-nies annually, placing at an impressive #28. Inc. Magazine also named PackIt #1 on its fastest-growing, woman-led businesses list. The magazine reported PackIt as having three-year revenue growth of 7,878 percent, and revenue of $11.9 million.

This year, PackIt debuted the Freezable Salad Bag, which keeps salads fresh and is specifically designed to accommodate wider containers, and the Freezable Sandwich Bag, which was redesigned with a zipper and a wrist strap and can be used for both sandwiches and snacks.

Its new licensed line with French Bull “has been an over-whelming hit with consumers and customers alike,” Kieling said. Black used to be the most popular color, she said, but the French Bull print Ziggy became the top seller in a few key categories. “It demonstrates that our consumer cares about style and personal expression, so we look forward to serv-ing PackIt fans with exciting new patterns going forward.” PackIt’s Freezable Lunch Bag, however, is still its number-one product.

In the future, consumers can expect more lunch bag styles, other lifestyle coolers and a growing wine category from PackIt, as well as expansion in the outdoor market. In addition, new shoulder bags will be added to the line next year for hands-free carrying, she said, and which are “super-stylish and meet increasing demand for our functionality in non-traditional shapes.” �

KitchenAid’s Elliott Elected IHA Board ChairmanDAVE ELLIOTT, GENERAL MANAGER OF KITCHENAID Global Small Appliances, has been elected chairman of the board of the International Housewares Association.

Elliott will succeed Keith Jaffee, chairman of O2 Cool, who is maintaining his position on the IHA board. Elliott has been with Whirlpool, KitchenAid’s parent, since February 2009. Prior to that, he worked for Jarden as vice president of global market-ing for personal-comfort and wellness products, vice president of global marketing for Sunbeam Appliances and president of Sunbeam Canada.

Other elected officers include Gary Seehoff, CEO of Evrihold-er Products, as vice chairman and chairman-elect; and Greg Cairo, president of Groupe SEB USA, as treasurer. The officers will serve one-year terms from Oct. 1-Sept. 30, 2015.

New directors chosen for the board are Richard Joseph, man-aging director of Joseph Joseph; Robert B. Kay, chairman and CEO of Taylor Precision Products; Alejandro Pena, USA presi-dent of Jarden Consumer Solutions; Paul D. Rowan, co-founder

of Umbra; and Philippe Trudeau, president of Trudeau Corp. The new board members will serve three-year terms from Oct. 1-Sept. 30, 2017.

Along with Jaffee, those remaining on the board include Hildy Abrams, CEO of Gourmet Settings; Brett Bradshaw, president of Bradshaw International; John Collins, partner
