What is driving the requirements?

• User expectations• Use of commercial clients has shown the hunger

for information• iPhone/Nexus One• Palm Pre• netbooks

• People cannot exist without our creature comforts• People want things now and not in 6 months• Users do not tolerate delay • Millennial users ‘expect’

• Complexity• Technological

• Everything is far more complex and needs a great deal of thought and design to ensure a satisfactory deployment.

• Content is now created for ease of use, mobility, and simple operation

• Geographical• Companies now operate wherever the

resources are, not where they are.

What is available to the company?

• Business demands have changed

• Flexible

• Total Coverage

• 24/7

• Ubiquitous

• Pay for what we use

• Financials are now even harder

• The recession has ensured that new

models have to be explored

• Hybrid networking is now the new thing

• Everything from IP dial-tone to true UC

• Complex choice for end users to choose

from.

Cloud Economics….why is it compelling? Numbers around CC are always impressive

80% fortune companies 1000 will pay to use cloud computing services and

30% will pay for infrastructure.Gartner

33% of IT business will be in Cloud Computing Gartner

At this moment, the 5 major search engines together have

2.000.000 computers

Hybrid/Cloud Based UC Strategy

• Demonstrate the adaptability of communications software to align with the principles of Next Generation Data Center Concepts

• Adopt to the fullest extent possible virtualisation and support of multiple Hyper-Visors where possible

• Focus on adapting software to be managed in a virtual environment instead of building our own.

• Understand that multiple cloud models will exist (public, private, hybrid) and that this has implications for communications software especially the real time components

• Utilise the Cloud as yet another route to market with the main benefit of reducing costs and complexity for customer/partners

• Amazon provides a basis for other cloud deployments• Start out simple but move to more complex deployments (CEBP,

federation) keeping the complexity in the cloud and deliver more value to the customer

• Make this offering accessible for both customers and partners (should not cause channel conflicts)

• View the Cloud as an Innovation Engine• Accelerate the implementation of OpenSOA SDK to the cloud• Leverage the core software for further innovation such as disaster

recovery service, Federation Service, ENUM Services, and keep adding capabilities to drive this innovation.

• Place no limitations on the core software assets (let customers/partners innovate)

Future Innovations For UC in the Cloud

CEBP/CBPA From the Cloud

• Rather than building your own Federation functions with other companies. Leverage a service from the Cloud

• Signing up for a federation service could provide instant access to a large number of potential partners/customers

Federated Services

• Combined instances of communications software with Line of Business Apps delivered as a service.

Disaster Recovery Services

• Provided as a service or create your own. Port your subscriber database to the cloud when internal network issues exist.

The Clouds The Limit

• There is little that cant be delivered from the cloud• Mobile computing services• Smartgrid services• Intelligent Data mining on a massive scale
