What a lovely way to finish out Superhero topic than visiting the real life superheroes of Madinaty, The Madinaty Fire Brigade. Year One was lucky enough to visit the fire station and take a look around to see what the real life superheroes do. They had a tour of a real fire engine, looked at the equipment they use, sat on the fire beach buggy, saw a practise fire drill with the fire men even sliding down the fireman’s pole and they even saw the fight fighters put out a real fire! Year one asked lots of exciting questions to the firemen, including how much water does the fire engine hold? And how long is the fire hose on the fire engine? Year One had so much fun, this trip maybe the making of future fire fighters in Egypt!

To reinforce their learning about sound, Year 4 went on an exciting trip to Family Park. Their activities included, identifying sounds, learning how sound waves travel through different mediums to the brain, and feeling sounds vibrate. After absorbing all that information the children enjoyed visiting the animals and playing in the play area.

FS2 Arty Science Farm Trip

On Tuesday 20th March FS2 went to the Arty Science Farm for a trip. The classes were split into 4 groups to experience the different stations on the farm. Farm animals – The children observed some rabbits and babies in their pen. They were able to hand feed the cow and calves, goats and their baby twins and some sheep. They fed the ducks, chickens, turkey and geese in their pond and observed some pigeons and their babies. Art station- The children made a Mother’s day card and decorated it from natural materials found on the farm. Growing crops- We walked around the farm to observe the different plants growing. We saw some peaches, mangoes, grapes, beans, onions, cabbage, cotton and corn. The children had a chance to replant a baby pepper seedling into a planting bed. They used their senses to experience the jasmine scent of the orange tree blossoms. We saw a gigantic sunflower plant and where its seeds come from. The children filled their own pot and planted some sunflower seed of their own to take home. Making Bread- The children saw a wheat crop growing and had a short presentation on what goes into making bread. They manipulated their own dough, rolling, kneading and cutting shapes. They observed the ladies making fresh local bread in the wood-fired oven and got to try some fresh out of the oven.

Study Skills for Secondary Students

Following on from the study tips in the last edition of the newsletter, below are a few more that you may find useful. The first tip is for those students studying for their IGCSEs. You should have a copy of the syllabus for each of the subjects being studied. Choose 3 different coloured highlighters (green, orange and red are a good idea). Work your way through the topics that have already been covered and use your highlighters in the following way; green for the topics that you understand well, orange for those topics that you have some difficulty with and red for the topics that you are struggling with. Once you have done this, you can start your revision with the topics that you have highlighted in red. Make sure you work on each point in the syllabus as you could be asked about anything that is in there. Speak to your teachers about anything you are finding difficult, they will be more than willing to help you. The second suggestion is to form a study group. Speak to your peers and find out who would like to study a particular subject in a group. Sometimes it helps to share ideas or even to hear a topic being explained by a friend. You could meet at one of the group’s houses and study a particular topic together. Be careful not to get distracted though and talk about other things! You could even form a revision group on WhatsApp or similar application to ask each other questions when you are unable to meet up. More study skills will follow in future editions of the newsletter; though please do not forget to speak to your teachers. They are always there, ready and willing to help! Year 5 and 6 Dragons Den

This term Year 6 have been learning about value for money and creating a product in order to present it for investment. They watched an episode of Dragon’s Den, a UK series, where people go and try to extract a certain amount of investment from ‘The Dragons.’ These are a group of entrepreneurs who are willing to invest in up-and-coming projects if the product is one that they believe will make money and succeed. Both 6A and 6B were very enthusiastic about this and thoroughly enjoyed discussing and planning their products. They will now have the two week break to properly plan their presentation for our own BISM Dragons. I look forward to seeing what they come up with. Good Luck Year 6!

Environment Week 22nd – 26th April, 2018 Starting with World Earth Day on Sunday 22nd April, the learning in all Primary classrooms for this week will be planned around environmental issues. At BISM this year we will follow the theme of “A Plastic Planet”. Students will be planning ways to encourage us to use less plastic items in our lives and to re-use what we already have.

Hundertwasser Inspired Fabric Painting

Year 8 have been working on the artist Hundertwasser last term and have created this superb group artwork, that will is now hung in the school as a permanent display. Hundertwasser was born in New Zealand and was an artist and architect who worked also in the field of environmental protection. He was fascinated by spirals, and called straight "something cowardly drawn with a ruler, without thought or feeling" He called his theory of art "transautomatism", focusing on the experience of the viewer rather than the artist. He often mixed his artwork with a human presence, taking the form of faces, eyes or hands. Years 8 have enjoyed working on this art piece and special thanks must go to Ms Nesma for her help with designing and organising the students during the creating process.

NEWSLETTER Pre-School and FS1

Our mothers Day even was full of love, laughter and fun! FS were preparing for a week for their lovely mummies to come and celebrate Mothers Day with them in class. They had prepared a mothers day song and worked hard rehearsing it daily. They created a short video explain one reason why they loved their mummy, some loved her because she gave nice hugs, made pancakes, and took them to birthday parties. The activities were enjoyable for both mothers and their children. Some classes made their own handmade soap and even shaped them as hearts as a symbol of their love to their mothers. Some activities also included making key chains and bracelets out of vibrant coloured beads which the mummies adored and wore them on the spot. Other children made some fantastic cards with words of love and appreciation inside, some mothers even had poems dedicated to them. All in all it was a fantastic day where mummies felt the love in the room and some even had tears in their eyesJ Mothers are appreciated every day so thank you for coming to spend it with us!
