As a church school, every half term we concentrate on an important value for life. Each half term we choose a special Value which we think about very carefully in our worship, our classrooms, in our playground and everywhere in school. We will focus on what they mean in our lives and in our relationships with each other.

Our Value this half term is DIGNITY “Dignity — to behave in a composed or serious manner.” Matthew 19:14 “Let the children come to me for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Peter 2:17 “Treat everyone you meet with dignity.” Dalai Lama “Love for others and respect for their rights and dignity, no matter who or what they are: ultimately these are all we need. ” Gandhi “The truest test of civilization, culture and dignity is character and not clothing.” Teachers will be on the look out this half term for children who are really trying hard to show dignity in lessons and around school. This week the following children have been noticed practising the value:

Dear Readers,

Year 6 have really impressed us this week with their writing skills. They have been working on their final edited version of a descrip-

tive piece of writing. Every time I have walked into their room someone has made their story even more descriptive and vivid from

their previous version. Here is an excerpt from Abigail’s writing…

‘The wind danced along the cobbled streets. The community celebrated in the old, wooden tavern. The boundless sea was manipu-

lated by the ferocious wind, which seemed to scream at the village. The lighthouse stood stoically on top of the jagged cliff,

searching wildly for dangers in the dark. The ocean gnawed at the rocks, like a dog. The lighthouse shone like the sun. Bright.

The majestic moon raised high above the village illuminating the darkness of the sea.’

I was also impressed with this piece of art homework from Leah Y6…

Internet Safety Week: Safer Internet Day is on 11th February 2020. It will be celebrated globally with the theme: Together for a better internet.

St Matthias is very fortunate again this year to have the local police to join us during Internet Safety Week. They are go-ing to visit classes from Reception to Year 6 and talk about Internet Safety and ways that children can keep themselves safe online.

I would also like to highlight that the local Police have offered a ‘Drop In’ for parents on Thursday 13th February from 3.30pm. This is a super opportunity for you all to ask them any questions or advice around Internet Safety and ensur-ing your children are using the internet safely at home. The internet and online gaming are extremely popular amongst children in today’s society, however it is also a platform for children to become targeted by unknown people. Please take this opportunity to know that you are doing everything possible to keep your child safe and get up to date advice. These are the dates that the clas-ses will be visited.

Monday 10th February : Years 5 & 6 internet safety lessons and worship Tuesday 11th February: Years 1 & 4 internet safety lessons Wednesday 12th February: Years 2 & 3 internet safety lessons Thursday13th February: Nursery and Reception internet safety lessons Thursday 13th February: DROP IN for children 2.30pm Thursday 13th February: DROP IN for parents 3.30pm If you would like to discuss internet safety with you child or just find out more about being safe on the internet then please visit this website https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2020 There are quizzes, top tips, video clips and parent resources on the website.
