Norton won eight matches wrestled and Mill Valley won four matches wrestled and each won one by forfeit. “This is the first year we have had a dual the night before the J.R. Durham Invitational Tournament and I think it was good for us,” said Norton head coach Bill Johnson. “It was a way for us to get out some sluggishness before the tournament. We competed well technique-wise but many of our wrestlers looked out of shape. We’ve had some sickness and some of our wrestlers were over- weight. Our endurance was not the best. “We worked on some new tech- niques and I was proud that our young men did that. The young Lady Jays lost 55- 42 to Smith Center then defeated Plainville 38-22 in the consolation championship game. “It was a good first experience for our C-team,” said Norton girls assistant coach Joan Bolt. “They continued to improve as the day went on and I was pleased with their effort. They know what they need to work on and will continue to improve.” Smith Center Against Smith Center, the Lady Jays trailed by quarters 19-8, 28- 19 and 45-28. Leading scorer for Norton was Dustyna Sprigg with 10 points, followed by Meaghan Peterson, 8; Kaylen Rossi, 7; Erin Terrell, 5; Sady Keilig, Alexis Henson, 4 each; Caren Thomson, Kylie Nu- zum, 2 each. Hileman led Smith Center with 26 points and Fuller scored 15. “We started out very flat de- fensively and offensively against Smith Center,” said coach Bolt. “We settled down in the second half and played more controlled and aggressively. In the fourth quarter, we did a lot of good things and pulled within striking range a couple of times. I was pleased with our effort in the last quarter. It was a great confidence builder for the next game.” Plainville The young Lady Jays held quar- ter leads of 19-4, 25-11 and 33-17 in the 38-22 win over Plainville. Reif led Plainville with 7 points. “Our girls kept the momentum they picked up at the end of the first game and scored 19 points in the first quarter against Plainville,” said coach Bolt. “It was exciting to watch. “Plainville did adjust but our ladies kept control of the game and finished with a strong victory.” Junior high Huskies lose by three The Northern Valley Junior High A-team basketball girls lost by just three points to Logan earlier in the month, 28-25. The B-team also lost, 24-10. The A-team girls are 2-6 on the season and the B-team is 0-6. School wrestling team hosted Mill Valley in a dual on Friday, Jan. 9 in Stull Gymnasium and won by a score of 47-18.

Norton won eight matches wrestled and Mill Valley won four matches wrestled and each won one by forfeit.

“This is the first year we have had a dual the night before the J.R. Durham Invitational Tournament and I think it was good for us,” said Norton head coach Bill Johnson.
