Summer has been hotter than ever and I'm sure we are all ready for some cool relief. The pool has

been busy and I hope everyone enjoyed the new improvements. We hope for more next year.

I hope everyone heard the great news at the tennis center. Michelle Dodier our director of tennis has

decided not to retire at this time. She will stay on as our director for as long as we can keep her. She is well liked by

members and CBIGG. Thank you Michelle!!

Our club has had many improvements made this year and more are coming. Thank you for your patience and your

board will continue letting management know your concerns. We are an advisory board and we are always passing

on your requests. Don't forget about the Hey Hagen forms in the main entry of our club.

The second stage of wine lockers have been installed in The Tavern on the Green. If you didn't get one please see

Debbie Gonzaba to get on the waiting list. Our wine club and wine tastings have been very popular and sell out fast.

Thank you Antonio.

I enjoy hearing from you around the club so please let me know if I can help with your club suggestions.

Our golf course has done well during this hot summer. Our pond has stayed full and lots of water is pumped out

every night. A good rain would be appreciated by all.

Congratulation to Harry Ramirez for all your golf achievements. He hold every title available at this time.

Club champion, senior club champion, and Sunburst champion.

Thank you for being members. It is you that makes The Club at Sonterra what it has become. I believe we have the

greatest club in our area and with your help we will continue to make it better.

See you around the club.

On the Course with David Gonzales

Course Superintendent

The summer days are finally fading away. This summer’s

heat and drought really put both golf courses to the test.

Wells running nonstop since the first of July, we have plenty water there is

no doubt about that. This summer we had to see where we were good with

irrigation and where we are having issues. Our summer agronomic program

was to get water in the ground. It took everything our Agronomy team had

not to mention our equipment was pushed to the max, operating nonstop

daily for 3 consecutive weeks. The results are unbelievable; we went from

shallow roots prior to aeration, to now having a few roots as long as 8inches

on the south and 3 inches on the North. August 29, 2019 another core

sample was pulled (6 weeks later) we now not only have root depth but root

mass. We now have a consistent root layer of 6”- 8” on the south 3”- 5” on

the North. This is very important moving into the fall/winter months.

September is jammed pack with excitement. We have many tournaments to

host and It’s PRE-EMERGE season. We will begin pre-emerging green

surrounds, and tee areas right after Labor Day. September 19th we will go

with our wall to wall fall pre-emerge application of Spectacle. The goal is

to be better each year and we are working for that daily.

As always, see you on the course,

David Gonzales

WELCOME TO OUR NEW TENNIS JUNIOR PROGRAM DIRECTOR

JULIAN LOPEZ- Junior Program Director/ Staff Professional

We would like to introduce Julian to our club as the new Director of Juniors and he will also be

joining an already fantastic teaching staff here at Sonterra. Julian’s credentials are impressive

with his 28 years of coaching experience (certified USPTA professional) and 12 years as a

Director of Tennis. He has coached a WTA player (Luciane Kelbert #1 from Brazil), and he

has coached for the International Tennis Federation Junior team. His collegiate tennis years

were spent at Oral Roberts University.

Julian is excited to get started with our juniors and equally excited about working with all the membership here at

Sonterra. He will be in charge of our Pickle Ball membership and develop programs to meet their needs. Julian will

be available to teach adults and juniors and he will also be in charge of the Junior Team Tennis. He hopes to develop

a junior program from “red ball” to travel team levels. Julian wants to meet you – so please give him a big Sonterra

welcome. We are very excited to have Julian join our staff and he is very excited to get the ball rolling.

Tennis News- Michelle Dodier, Director of Tennis Tennis Events/News

I don’t know about you all but this summer went by

way too fast. We had fun, it was busy, we were very hot

and all of a sudden it was September. We have in just a

short few days the start of USTA leagues, club leagues,

junior programs, team tennis and our fall collection of

clothes to show off. Again it’s hard to keep up with because there are so

many activities going on all at once. I again urge you to download the

Sonterra App for your notifications from us. We will send notifications

out to let you know of upcoming events, deadlines, rain delays and PRO

SHOP SALES. It’s super easy and very useful.

We had six teams in the playoffs this past August and we have four teams

that are moving forward to Sectionals in Houston in September. It was

very close with some of our teams that went down to the third set tie

breaker—a heart-breaker. Next year ladies (teams) is closer than you

think and you get a second chance. Our ladies Sonterra 2.5 team that went

to Sectionals in early August did fantastic. Though we came up short of

the gold (they came in third) we made great strides in knowledge for our

future competition. The fun they had and the great camaraderie that was

formed from that weekend speaks volumes of what “team” competition is

supposed to be. Hats off to all our SONTERRA TEAMS. I’ve seen teams

together for years because they love playing with each other whether they

come in first or last. It’s all about having fun for all and that’s our aim.

We have a lot in store for you this fall so please read your emails, watch

for our notifications, look at our flyers around the facility and of course

listen to our constant urging to sign up for everything we have going on.

That should do the trick.

Your Sonterra staff looks forward to another great fall season and we

thank you for your support and participation in all our events. You all are

SUPER members and players come to Sonterra because of YOU. This is

a club where players come to play hard, know the competition is superb

and have a lot of fun doing the above.

You all show us that Sonterra is the place to be for “fun” tennis,

competitive tennis and family tennis.
