A native and lifelong resident of Colorado County, she was born De- cember 28,1945 in Eagle Lake to Alex Jack "A.J." and Ophelia Jackson Will- iams. She was a graduate of E.H. Henry High School with the Class of 1963, later graduated from The Franklin Beauty School of Houston and had maintained her beauticians' license since. Stine led a distinguished career as a Correctional Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice with Jester Unit No. 4 and had retired Janu- ary 31, 2003. She was a member of Community of Faith Church in Houston. She was preceded in death by her father, A.J. Williams (2001); husband, James Carroll (1974); a son, Richard "Rip" Williams (1993); and brothers, Robert Charles Price, Willie Bob Tho- mas and Kevin Thomas. Survivors include her mother, Ophelia Lyons; a daughter, Jayenelle Carroll; two sons, Roney J. Carroll and Adrian J. Carroll, all of Eagle Lake; four sisters, Nancy Arriola of Houston, Brenda Hemphill of Missouri City, Sandra Pettus of Houston and Arlene Jackson of Kendleton; eight brothers, Melvin Robinson, Larry Thomas and Anthony Thomas of Eagle Lake, Marvin Thomas of Austin, and Jessie Thomas, Alex Williams Jr., Ricky Tho- mas and Willie James Johnson of Houston; five grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 17, from Provi- dence Baptist Church in Eagle Lake, Rev. Coby Shorter, Jr., pastor. Rev. James W.E. Dickson II, pastor of Com- munity of Faith Church of Houston, will officiate. Interment will follow in Commu- nity Cemetery North in Eagle Lake. June 9,1928 - May 3,2003 Frank Miller Sr., 74, of Eagle Lake, passed away suddenly at his residence, Saturday, May 3, 2003. Born June 9, 1928, he was the son of Laura Kyles and William Shorter. Miss Laura Kyles married Mr. Otto Miller and he adopted Frank as his son. Frank went to school in Eagle Lake at E.H. Henry School and, at an early age, accepted Jesus as his Savior. Frank led a career in rice farming. Frank married Althea Lewis. To that union, no children were born. Later, he married Mable Williams. To this union, 10 children were born; three daughters, Laura Mae Miller and Georgia Williams of Houston and Ma- ble Stovall of Eagle Lake; seven sons, Clyde Miller and Frank Miller Jr. of Houston, Tomie E. Sims of Eagle Lake, and Junior Lee Sims, Freddie Miller, Edgar Lee Miller and Joe Nathan Mill- er of Houston; three step-children, Mrs. Trula B. Garner of Altair, Rev. Charles D. Edith Caldwell Cooper, 83, of Eagle Lake and former longtime resi- dent of Sweeny, passed away at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10,2003, at Polly Ryon Hospital's Skilled Nursing Facility in Richmond following an extended ill- ness.

Born July 13,1918 in Paxton, Shel- by County, Texas she was the daugh- ter of Guy W and Gertrude Agnew Caldwell and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sweeny.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buford Cooper in 1989; sis- ters, Norma Pickens and Elaine Tay- lor; and brothers, L.B. Caldwell and Rex Caldwell; survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Grace Dell Cooper of Eagle Lake; sis- ters Guyla Porterfield and Margie

The University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) Center for Nonprofit Leader- ship and the American Humanics Stu- dent Association (AHSA) will host the Sixth Annual AHSA Spring Dinner and Silent Auction at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, in the University Center building on the UHV campus. Tickets are $20 for students and $30 for community members.

The annual event highlights UV's AH students and their achievements for the year. Community nonprofit orga- nizations that support the program through internship, mentor and volun- teer opportunities also receive recog- nition.

"Kansas City Knights" is this year's banquet theme. It was derived from the upcoming 2004 AH Management In- stitute to be held in Kansas City, Mis- souri, the birthplace of jazz. In keep- ing with the theme, attendees are en- couraged to dress in 1920s attire.

Frank Miller Sr., 74, of Eagle Lake, passed away suddenly at his residence, Saturday, May 3, 2003.

Born June 9, 1928, he was the son of Laura Kyles and William Shorter.

Miss Laura Kyles married Mr. Otto Miller and he adopted Frank as his son.

Frank went to school in Eagle Lake at E.H. Henry School and, at an early age, accepted Jesus as his Savior.

Frank led a career in rice farming. Frank married Althea Lewis. To that

union, no children were born. Later, he married Mable Williams.

To this union, 10 children were born; three daughters, Laura Mae Miller and Georgia Williams of Houston and Ma- ble Stovall of Eagle Lake; seven sons, Clyde Miller and Frank Miller Jr. of

Houston, Tomie E. Sims of Eagle Lake, and Junior Lee Sims, Freddie Miller, Edgar Lee Miller and Joe Nathan Mill- er of Houston; three step-children, Mrs. Trula B. Garner of Altair, Rev. Charles D. Lewis of Austin and Lee Edward Lewis of Gonzales; a step-sister, Cora Davis; a step-brother, Samie Chavis; other relatives include sisters-in-law, Mrs. Willie Mae Butler of Houston and Dessie Washington of Bryan; brothers- in-law, Son Sims of Bryan and James Sims of Victoria; a host of grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wives.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10, from the Chapel of

Dulany Funeral Home in Eagle Lake with Rev. Thomas Kuykendall, pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Eagle Lake, officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date following cremation.

Dulany Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Charles Miller, Kevin Miller, Sharman Stovall, Frank Miller III, Edgar L. Miller Jr. and Joe Stovall.

Honorary Pallbearers were Frank Miller Jr., Tomie Sims, Clyde Miller, Junior Lee Miller and Joe Nathan Miller.
