Samantha Beacham and Hannah Haw have been announced as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the La Porte High School Class of 2016. Samantha, the daughter of Denny Beacham and Jennifer Glass of La Porte, plans to attend Texas A & M University, majoring in biomedical sciences, with plans to become a veterinarian specializing in horses. Hannah, the daughter of Jim and Kim Haw of La Porte, hopes to attend Baylor University to study biomedical engineering

Trustees Recognize Valedictorian, Salutatorian

The top 100 academic achiev-ers in the La Porte High School Class of 2016 were recognized at a dinner in their honor on Feb. 16. The event, held in the LPHS Student Center, was made possible by the Bill and Helen Crowder Foundation through a donation to the La Porte Education Foundation.

The event included remarks by Lloyd Graham, La Porte ISD superintendent of schools; Kathy Green, representative of the LPISD Board of Trustees; and Todd Schoppe, La Porte High School principal.

Top 100 LPHS Academic Students Recognized

The La Porte ISD’s annual Education Celebration, sponsored by the La Porte Education Foun-dation, is set for Thursday, March 3, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at La Porte High School.

Every LPISD school will have a booth to showcase activities at the campuses. Some teachers will display grants they received from the Foundation.

Musical performances by district school groups are also scheduled throughout the event.

The Campus with the highest percentage of adult attendance will win $400 and the district’s “Traveling Trophy” for one year.

The school with the second-highest percentage of adult attendance will win $200.

Additional drawings for teachers, principals, assistant principals and district personnel will be held along with raffle

drawings for some great prizes. For more information, call
