Thoughts from the 1st Vice District Governor,

Bill Brown

Wow time is going so fast. We had a great successful Melvin Jones Breakfast. And, our District Bowling Tournament went very good. Chester Stoltzfoos did a great job organizing it. We had 7 more teams this year. It's really growing. I was so proud of the response. It was really meaningful to see the Clubs support, and I want to thank you all. Now for April, there is so many things coming up -April 7th President's Honor Night at Yoder's Restaurant. -April 8th District D Convention at Cedar Crest Middle School. -April 16 Happy Easter. Remember your family and friends on this holiday. Remember to Report your Clubs service, and Centennial Challenges, and Legacies. Any questions don't hesitate to call me, or my wife. We are always happy to help. Always, remember we can achieve anything with our Lions spirit, that is in our hearts. Keep Roaring Lions, Bill Brown 1st VDG

Greetings from the 2nd Vice District Governor,

Gene Hilton

Howdy, March certainly was a month for the Lion. Eating a good breakfast and hearing State Council Chair Karen Brady speak on serving, lots of fun bowling, and lots of work planning Rock for Sight. Congratulations to Bareville Leola Leacock on 90 years of service. Congratulations to Marietta, Millersville, and Strasburg on 85 years of service. It is good to see 14-D Lions mentioned in the Lions Magazine. April is a very important and busy month as well. Be sure your club is represented at President's Honor Night and the District Convention. if you can, please provide a theme basket for these events. April is also the time club nominating committees seek candidates for the next Lionistic year. If asked, don't be afraid to accept the challenge. You will be amazed at the personal growth and fulfillment in tackling new challenges. You might even have some fun.

Centennial Service Challenge Goal

for the Month of April is " Protecting the Environment "

Our environment needs nurtured. So, plant

a tree, grow a community garden. Also, there is so much litter on the highways. Adopt a highway through your township. Have a

road clean up crew with your club. Show our communities that Lions, Lionesses and Leo's care. That is what service is about

Remember "We Serve".

ROAR, LIONS, ROAR.

Like music and art, love of nature is common language that can transcend

political or social boundaries.

Quote by: Jimmy Carter

So proud of the clubs in District 14-D Keep reporting your Centennial

Service Challenges, Community Service, and Legacies

PRIDE!

“FAB 4” NEWS & VIEWS

Hello “Fab 4” Lioness Clubs!

Spring has finally sprung here in “Fab 4” territory, and I don't mean just the weather! Many events and

activities are popping up everywhere you look. Here are some things to look for:

The Happenings...

Blue Ball - 21 members, with Sandi Wilson to be inducted next month! Their Easter Candy making

marathon event starts on Friday, March 31st and runs through Monday, April 3rd . Volunteers are still

needed!! April 14th is the Egg Hunt, and get your fishin' poles ready for the Fish Rodeo on May 13th!!

Heidelberg – 19 members. The Easter Pie orders have been turned in, now it's on to the Scholarship Bingo

with a variety of prizes for the lucky winners! See their flyer in this newsletter and support this event!

Lititz – 34 members. April 8th is the date--See the Fashion Show flyer in this newsletter for details!!

Millersville - 36 busy members. Monthly bingo at Brereton Manor / Collection for the Loft.

And in case you missed it last month, a repeat of the March Views…

One very important topic of concern lately is our continuing membership decline, which to some degree

touches ALL clubs in our district. I know that our Lioness Clubs are feeling the pinch, too, and we should

be holding membership drives and be making a concerted effort to reach out to potential new members at

every opportunity. To help apply ourselves to this challenge, here are two ideas for a quick start to gaining

new members through increased club visibility. First, don’t underestimate the power of the press to get

your name out there!! I strongly encourage all clubs to begin (or to continue) locally advertising your

club's community activities and fund raising events and to publicly tout the successes of your members and

of your own club. Second, another great place to be noticed is within our own district newsletter!! This

column and our Facebook page certainly aspires to assist in bolstering your efforts. Keep in mind that the

newsletter editor, Anita Gordon, will gladly include your posters and flyers for all to see and share. **If anyone has any helpful ideas to share regarding a successful approach to building your membership

rolls, please let me know. I will post all comments and suggestions received each month in this column.

Be assured that we will all benefit from your input and experiences! Nothing breeds success like success, so

let's work together to grow our Pride in our own backyards!!! Don't forget to check out our “District 14-D Lioness Clubs” Facebook page, everyone!

Many thanks to the “Fab 4” Lioness Club members for the super work they do each and every month to

help better their own communities. WE SERVE, TOO!

Lioness Coordinator Diane Coffey

The Greater Lebanon Valley Lions Club is preparing for the Eclipse that will occur on August 21, 2017! While we will not be in the path of the total solar eclipse, the sun will be 77% occluded by the moon in the Harrisburg area. Looking at the sun with the naked eye can cause permanent damage to the retina but using the correct protec-tion can make direct viewing of the sun safe! The Greater Lebanon Valley Lions Club will be selling eclipse glasses that will allow you to safely view the sun for $2 each! If you are interested in purchasing some, please contact Lion Fred Marotta at [email protected].

Respectfully,

Lion Fred Marotta
