CALENDAR TERM 2 PRINCIPAL’S NEWS We have all welcomed the recent easing of restrictions in NSW but
it’s important to remember that
social distancing and washing your
hands remain the best ways to
prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Social distancing measures will
remain in place in schools and I
would again like to thank the families who continue to follow our
drop off guidelines each morning, your cooperation is much
appreciated.
Phase 1 continues this week with students returning to school for
one day a week. Our staff have thoroughly enjoyed having
students back onsite, reconnecting and hearing their isolation
stories. This will be another busy week as we continue to adapt
our teaching and learning programs.
Our honour and merit award system will
resume this week for all students learning
both online and onsite. I’m sure our
students are eager to pursue their
individual academic goals in their
Wellbeing Folder. Awards will be noted in the newsletter next
Monday and will be handed out in class.
Students have been very excited to return to onsite learning,
reconnecting with their teachers, friends and enjoying play time at
recess and lunch. Staff have reflected on how the past weeks have
impacted their teaching and learning as well as their lives outside
of school. Please find their insights on the next page. I would love
to hear from our parent community about their experiences as
well. Please submit your responses through Survey Monkey to the
following headings ‘What I have missed’, ‘What I have
enjoyed/loved’ and ‘What I have found difficult’. I look forward to
reading your responses and will include a sample in next week’s
newsletter.

What I have missed • Seeing and talking to the kids (and parents and families) face to face • The normal school routine and seeing and talking to all my colleagues • I miss the lunchtime incidents where kids have a little problem such as, ‘I
can't find my hat, or I lost my ball’ and it is like they have lost a limb or a vital organ. Hands down I have missed the interactions with the kids the most. I feel that as a teacher,
much of my energy and passion is garnered through my interactions with my students. I have missed laughing with them. Their absence at school has definitely been the hardest part!
• I feel I have missed out on the class. This will be a year that no one will ever get back. I am worried about some of my students returning and how they will cope with resettling into the class again.
What I have enjoyed / loved • Changing our workplaces to our lounge rooms and/or dining rooms with our families around us • Being able to have a bathroom break whenever you need it which is very rare in the classroom • Meeting with staff over Microsoft Teams and seeing their families or home lives. I think it brings us closer
together as a team • Seeing so many kids upload their fantastic work from home with the help of their parents, siblings & families • Learning how to use Google Classroom via our Professional Learning hub with Google and NSWDOE staff.
Who ever thought teachers would actually have a student mute button? • I have loved being able to engage with all Stage 3 students and to have a better understanding of individuals
across the cohort. Having more time to plan lessons in an innovative manner and the opportunity to experiment with different methods of delivery, particularly in the development of online learning content. I enjoyed being able to apply knowledge and skills gained from previous professional development courses in online learning. I have also learnt to take a risk and to try new things despite initial setbacks. As always, kids are far more capable when they’re given the opportunity and conditions required to grow and develop
• I have found a way around being ‘me’ online through the use of Animoji, and have had a lot of fun and have enjoyed creating iMovies as a teaching tool. What initially scared me has turned out to be something that I have learnt to enjoy creating
• I feel I have bonded with my stage colleagues and we have had a lot of laughs. I missed the staff and the chatter in the staff room and office
• I enjoyed working from home and am quite surprised how much I actually can get done, often working through breaks because I’m on a roll
• Whilst playing sport I witnessed two students respecting the social distance rules. One student went to give a high five in the air, to stop mid-air to touch elbows instead.
What I have found difficult • Programming work for students to do with their parents and families at home with accessible resources and
friendly language for parents to utilise • Not seeing the students face to face at school • Separating all the students' desks to make them sit apart from their peers • Trying to communicate and collaborate with colleagues entirely through technology • One of the hardest things for me was having to send my own children to school at the end of Term 1 so I
could be at my school • Initially, I hated the thought of using Google Classroom. All aspects of it, but especially the thought of online
lessons, I have learnt so much.
Professional Learning I have engaged in • I have learnt how to use Google Classroom effectively to schedule lessons and provide feedback to students • I have also learnt to use Microsoft Teams to hold meetings with staff members • I have found students and teachers have up-skilled with technology especially Google Classroom • Supporting students in need • Aboriginal Education and Communities
STAFF THOUGHTS…
Website: [email protected] Email: [email protected] Page 3
• I found the Basics of Google Classroom such a valuable course, and because of this course I have completely changed my mind. I now can schedule assignments, and am creating my own online ‘worksheets’ that students can turn in and I’m more confident with using the Google suite of programs. I also am very intrigued in number/ math talks and I want to learn more about it. It was the ‘Basics of Google Classroom’ course which I found was the most beneficial to me through this strange time in my teaching career.
HEALTH AND HYGIENE
The health and safety of our students and staff is paramount and we will be following advice of the experts in this
field. Hygiene and safety will be a priority and there continues to be enhanced cleaning in the school. We are
continuing with our daily thorough cleaning, including the cleaning of high touch surfaces such as door knobs, desks,
bathrooms and sinks. Bubblers will not be accessed by students due to hygiene concerns.
Students have access to soap and water for handwashing in the classrooms and playground and this is our preferred
method for students cleaning their hands. Hand sanitiser is also available in all classrooms and the library for staff and
student use. If parents would like to send their child with their own personal hand sanitiser that is fine as well.
WINTER UNIFORM/UNIFORM SHOP
Students should return to school in winter uniform this term. If you have not yet purchased uniforms please see the
note below. Until you are able to get winter uniforms please send your child to school in their summer uniform with
a school jacket.
The uniform shop will be closed temporarily for “face-to face” sales, however orders will still be filled on a regular
basis (Tuesday and Friday mornings at this stage) to ensure you can still purchase the items you require. Please leave
your order form at the office or email the order form directly to [email protected]. Please ensure an order
form is used for all purchases. Credit card payments are preferred but cash is accepted also. Note that credit card
details will be destroyed from the order form after purchase. Your uniform order will be delivered to your child’s
classroom or left at the office, as instructed by you on the order form.
Exchanges (in original packaging without tags removed) can be left at the office with clear exchange instructions.
If you require fitting of uniforms or would like to access the second hand items, please email
[email protected] and we will organise a suitable time. Please clearly label each item to minimise loss
SPECIAL ORDER “Warburton” Polar Fleece Lined Hard Shell Spray Jacket (with school logo)
The uniform shop will be placing an one-off order for the “spray jacket”. As this is not a regular item, we do not have current stock of this product, and as such we are unable to provide a sample.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS FOR 2021
Pagewood Public School’s Kindergarten 2021 Open Day will now be held on Thursday 20 August 2020. Individual
interviews are planned for 1-17 September. Kindergarten Transition sessions will be held on Wednesday 4 and 11
November. We will start taking Kindergarten 2021 enrolment forms and all supporting documentation via email
from Tuesday 28 April 2020 at [email protected]
CYBER SAFETY
Do your children use the internet unsupervised? Do you know what they are
actually doing online? Which games are your children playing? Who are they
communicating with? How are they communicating? There is often media
attention drawn to the online behaviour of children and young adults. At
some point in time your child may be involved in online bullying or
inappropriate behaviour. This out of school interaction may then continue in
school time which impacts on the wellbeing of themselves and others. We
will be organising a presentation from our local Police Liaison Officer for
both Stage 3 students as well as parents this year. In the interim, please
access a range of excellent parent resources from the Office of the eSafety
Commissioner here: https://www.esafety.gov.au/education-resources/iparent
