INSTRUCTOR TRAINING SCHEME

You’ll get paid from day one, we’ll invest in your

training, pay for your National Governing Body

qualifications, provide limitless shadowing

opportunities with senior instructors and you’ll gain

real world experience leading groups. We’ll even

pay you bonus payments for every session you lead

and there is genuine opportunity for full time, year

round employment at the end of the scheme.

You’ll end your training year with the most diverse

range of outdoor coaching qualifications in the

industry, with real world coaching experience and

both summer and winter qualifications - you’ll be all

set for a year round future working in the great

outdoors!

Our training programme will involve in house

qualifications, training and assessment for National

Governing Body Awards, shadowing senior

instructors, training trips to the Peak Districts, Lake

District, Dartmoor and South Wales and real world

experience leading sessions.

This scheme is the best way into the industry. Fast

track training schemes will cost you thousands

upfront and will give you just enough training to

pass qualifications - you wont get the crucial real

world experience potential employers are looking

for.

Mendip established in 1987 has evolved into one of

the biggest and most reputable outdoor activity

providers in the South West. Providing activities from

our bases and sites across the Mendip Hills. Our

main 250 acre activity centre is located in the heart

of the Mendip Hills AONB just a few miles south of

Bristol and 20 minutes from the Somerset coast. Our

woodland centre boasts a snowsport park, private

rock sport quarry, access to the largest

underground cave network in the UK, a tented

village - accommodating 120 and onsite café and

bar.

We work with education groups, businesses, Not For

Profit groups, families and individuals. Our centre is

busy all year round and throughout the summer

season we host activity residential’s on-site and at

venues across the UK. We also supervise and assess

DofE expeditions in National Parks across the UK.

Our pioneering Instructor Training programme has

been running for over 25 years and this year we are

offering Instructor Training positions for up to six

candidates. No previous experience or

qualifications in the outdoor industry are necessary

but may help. You’ll need to be over 18 years of

age.

We’ll actually pay you a training salary from day

one of £546 per month and you’ll gain at least two

NGB Qualifications in the first month. As soon as you

are out leading sessions we’ll pay you a bonus of

£23 for every session you lead.

Most of our participants rent a spare room from

one of our team or apply for housing benefit and

rent together privately. We can support you with

either option.

our Instructor Training Scheme and investing heavily in

their training and development...

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING SCHEME

EARN WHILST YOU TRAIN

Most Instructor Training programmes cost

thousands of pounds up front, only last a couple of

months and are usually in the quiet winter season.

Mendip has pioneered an alternative way into the

industry. We pay you from day one. You’ll earn at

least £546 per month and you’ll get a full year of

training and experience. The basic allowance can

be topped up as soon as you gain in-house or NGB

qualifications.

By the time our peak season begins you’ll be able

to lead your own sessions in some activities and top

up your basic allowance by £23 per 2.5 hour

session.

If you add the cost of training and qualifications to

your basic allowance and your session bonus

payments you’ll be earning the equivalent of a full

time instructor.

There are also other opportunities to increase your

earnings with paid casual work available in the

Alpine Lounge Café-Bar and the snow sport

equipment fitting room.

EXPERIENCE

No previous experience necessary. Whilst

experience with the outdoors and outdoor

activities can be an advantage we are looking for

people with the right attitude, outlook and

personality.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

We’ve been refining our interview process for over

20 years. Our unique two day interview gives us the

opportunity to really get to know each other. You’ll

get the chance to try some of our activities, have a

tour of our centre and facilities and meet our team.

Whatever the outcome, we guarantee you’ll enjoy

the interview process, get a taste of the outdoor life

and meet some great like-minded people.

If selected you’ll need to attend our overnight

interview in July.

MENDIP SNOWSPORT CENTRE

Our 250 acre woodland activity site on the edge of

the Mendips has a private 50 acre rock sport quarry

with a 150 foot abseil and climbs to challenge all

ages.

We also have a climbing tower, a

permanent archery and rifle shooting range, a dry

slope for skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing,

a large camping area, several bush

craft and forest school sites, orienteering courses

and an abandoned mineral mine for an

introduction to caving.

HEWISH

Our multi-activity site in Hewish has exclusive access

to the Old Bridge River for canoeing, kayaking, raft

building, river crossings and bridge building.

This green field site is home to our assault course

which consists of two parallel lanes of identical

obstacles, archery ranges and initiative exercises.

HEWISH MULTI-ACTIVITY SITE

BURRINGTON COMBE

Deep in the heart of the Mendip Hills Area of

Outstanding Natural Beauty - this gorge has

exposed some great limestone rock, ideal for

climbing and abseiling.

Burrington Combe is the gateway to the Mendip

Hills cave network, the largest underground river

system in the UK and the national centre for

caving.

Mendip has been proud custodians of this

landmark site, located just 2 miles from our main

base, for well over 25 years!

Mendip’s 40 acre tented village forms part of our 250 acre

activity centre and accommodates schools, youth groups

and corporate teams from April to October.

MENDIP’S TENTED VILLAGE

MENDIP HILL TOP CAMPSITE

Mendip’s 40 acre canvas village forms part of our

250 acre Activity Centre within the Mendip Hills

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The accommodation village has been built

specifically for large groups and provides the

perfect base for an activity camp.

The ten canvas bunkhouses accommodate up to

120 people and the central canvas ‘Hub’ is 3,600

square feet of flexible marquee space that can

accommodate up to 250 people.

Our canvas village is booked by schools, youth

groups and for corporate teams.

BASECAMP

Basecamp is our unique multi-purpose function

room. You’ll use Basecamp for the theory based

parts of any NGB courses and in-house training we

run at the centre.

THE ALPINE LOUNGE

We recently refurbished our cafe-bar taking

inspiration from vintage alpine ski lodges. The result

is a cosy, inviting and rustic interior and a great new

menu. Our menu is sourced from local suppliers,

Somerset Farms and West Country suppliers. It's

simple, filling, honest, affordable après-ski food.

As a member of our team you’ll benefit from

cheap hot drinks, snacks and meals which are

available all day, every day.
