Painting Haradrim WarriorsPainting Workshop for The Battle of Pelennor Fields

This archer was painted by Neil Langdown as part of a small warband of HaradrimWarriors. Although the cloak is drybrushed, the primary painting technique used wasink washing. To use this technique, paint fluid ink over a light basecoat. The ink willflow into the natural creases and folds to create shading and highlights. This qualityof the ink allows you to shade a model effectively with very little effort.

Start by gluing the model to its base and undercoating it with Chaos Black Primer.

1Lightly drybrush thecloak with equalparts of Chaos Black and CodexGrey.

2Paint the trousersand sleeves a basecoat of equalparts Liche Purple and Shadow Grey.

3Paint Scab Redonto both the loincloth andheaddress. You may need to applyseveral thin coats to get a solid color.

To add stainingeffects to the cloak,lightly drybrush Bestial Brown alongthe edge.

Apply a wash ofBlack Ink to the cloth and finish offthe red cloth with awash of Brown Ink.

Apply a basecoat ofGraveyard Earth tothe strapping and paint the armorShining Gold.

7To paint the skin,apply an equal partsmix of Bronzed Flesh and DwarfFlesh. Pick out the teeth with SkullWhite.

8Shade the strappingwith a coat of BrownInk and apply Chestnut Ink toshade the gold.

9Drybrush thefeathers on the arrows with CodexGrey.

When the red and purple color scheme is applied to a whole warband of Haradrim Warriors, you cancreate a nice sense of variety by applying the colors to different areas of each model. You can paint theheaddress purple on one model, for example, and then paint it red on the next. By using the same colorson the whole unit, you retain a sense of unity that looks good on the tabletop.
