What is the purpose of dehydration reactions?
What is the purpose of hydrolysis reactions?
Extra practice: Upload handout on website
Group Activity Task: Design a system where one type of animal can be transported between two sealed compartments. One compartment will contain many types of animals that are relatively the same size. For example, mice, rats, squirrels, chipmunks etc. The task at hand is for students to design a system for only mice to be able to be transported into the second compartment where there is food.
Learning Intention ! I can explain the structure of a plasma membrane
Cell Membranes: Fluid Mosaic Model
Cell Membranes: Fluid Mosaic Model
Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic Regions
Fluid Bilayer and Bilayer Vesicle
Take Away Task ! Create a graphic organizer to explain the structure of the
plasma membrane.
! We will add to this graphic organizer throughout the unit.
! Components to include: phospholipids, proteins, carbohydrate chains, and cholesterol.
! For next class, complete the phospholipid section. ! Structure of phospholipid (included the chemical formula) ! Draw a diagram of the cell membrane ! Properties of the phosphate head and fatty acid tails ! Why is it called a bilayer? ! Describe why the phospholipid bilayer creates a barrier for
polar molecules?
