Coastal Partnership East are part of East Suffolk
Council (ESC) and are responsible for coastal
management. They have appointed the Water
Management Alliance (WMA) to carryout Beach
Protection works. The WMA will be completing
works at Pakefield as part of that contract.
A map of where the work is taking place is on the
back of this factsheet. The work is spread along the
beach from Rectory Road, Lowestoft to the beach
south of Arbor Lane, Pakefield. There will be a
temporary site set up established at All Saints
Road.
The WMA will be extracting a small amount of
beach material from Lowestoft South Beach
between Rectory Road and Kensington Road.
Beach material will be transported along the beach
by dumper truck to Pakefield and used to fill
several one tonne bags and placing them in a
100m length protection at the base of the cliff and
beach south of Arbor Lane, Pakefield.

December 2020
The temporary protection work will likely start from
7th December 2020 onwards, allowing our
maintenance contractor to maximise work around
daily low ides. This work will last approximately five
days.
All work is subject to safe working conditions i.e.
tide and weather condition dependent.
This work will provide temporary protection to the
base of the cliffs and beach in the location of
residential properties for this Winter. This part of
the Coast has experienced erosion of the soft
sandy cliffs.
We have been working closely with the Pakefield
Community Steering Group helping to protect
homes and our beautiful and important coastline
economically and environmentally and for the
enjoyment of communities and visitors for
generations to come.
