How can you find out more? Why are we doing this work? Coastal Partnership East are part of East Suffolk Council (ESC) and are responsible for coastal management. They have appointed the Water Management Alliance (WMA) to carryout Beach Protection works. The WMA will be completing works at Pakefield as part of that contract. A map of where the work is taking place is on the back of this factsheet. The work is spread along the beach from Rectory Road, Lowestoft to the beach south of Arbor Lane, Pakefield. There will be a temporary site set up established at All Saints Road. The WMA will be extracting a small amount of beach material from Lowestoft South Beach between Rectory Road and Kensington Road. Beach material will be transported along the beach by dumper truck to Pakefield and used to fill several one tonne bags and placing them in a 100m length protection at the base of the cliff and beach south of Arbor Lane, Pakefield. This work will provide temporary protection to the base of the cliffs and beach in the location of residential properties for this Winter. This part of the Coast has experienced erosion of the soft sandy cliffs. We have been working closely with the Pakefield Community Steering Group helping to protect homes and our beautiful and important coastline economically and environmentally and for the enjoyment of communities and visitors for generations to come.
