Pallas in Taurus (8° Tau 11'R) Pallas in the Ninth House The asteroid Pallas (short for Pallas Athene) was found in 1802, the second of the four major asteroids to be discovered. The four major asteroids, Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta, were discovered within a few years of each other at the beginning of the 19th century, and named for female goddesses in the Roman pantheon. Their discovery has been synchronous with the rise of the women's movement in the West. These four asteroids seem to symbolize four different facets of the feminine and represent a fresh way of regarding the feminine principle in astrology, going beyond the relatively simple categories of wife and mother, as represented by Venus and the Moon. Pallas represents the wisdom of the female spirit, as the mythology of Pallas Athene would indicate: born from the head of Zeus, and symbolized by the owl and the snake, Pallas Athene was a powerful symbol for independence and wisdom in the ancient mythology. She did not ally herself with any man, but rather was a strong and warrior-like figure who aided men of good will and whose advice was prized for its intelligence. The astrology of the asteroid Pallas indicates such a feminine spirit of independence and cool mental judgment in either a man's or a woman's chart. Pallas represents the creative use of the mental faculty in combination with ageless wisdom, and is also involved with the arts, especially the plastic arts such as sculpture and pottery, and with medicinal remedies. Its position by house and sign indicates where in one's life the divine spark of creative intelligence and higher wisdom may spring forth. The Ninth House represents intuition and the study of religion philosophy, and higher learning. In addition, it represents travel to other countries, and legal matters. This house is interpreted similarly to the ninth sign of Sagittarius, and represents the expansion of horizons, mental, physical and spiritual. Planets in this house may symbolize your philosophical pursuits, or possibilities for travel.

Neptune in Taurus (5° Tau 36'R) Neptune in the Ninth House Neptune in the Ninth House (or sign) gives an impressionable, idealistic and very intuitive personality. You are inclined to the mystical, and are high-minded, seeing life in terms of visionary and poetic feelings rather than in practical terms. You are capable of great belief in the unknown and unproven. You are inclined to scholarly pursuits, but may feel a lack of motivation or vagueness with respect to educational goals. You also have a strong desire to explore and travel, to try novel ideas and experiment with new ways of doing things. You may be attracted to spiritual studies, or psychedelics, as a way to achieve a transcendent state of mystical union with all creation. Your challenge lies in relying on your considerable inner vision to unfold your own unique pathway, to make concrete and real your flights of consciousness to other realms, and bring this vision back with you into society at large. The following applies to your generation as a whole as well as to you personally: Neptune in Taurus (or the second house) gives a kind and charming personality with a sensuous nature and good taste in artistic matters. You love music, painting and poetry. You are inclined to express your aesthetic sense in your environment. You may also have a tendency to excessive consumption or even extravagance. You may have good luck with money in your life, and yet waste it pursuing impractical schemes. You can become prey to delusions regarding the true importance of the material world in your life, or doubt the basis of your security. There could be a lack of appreciation for your possessions, or an appreciation based on their emotional rather than their intrinsic value. You may also have a strong desire to share personal wealth or to give your things away to others. You benefit when you realize that a deeper perception of the meaning behind the material world is needed, in order to transform your values regarding resources, and that your true foundation for security lies within yourself.

N Node in Taurus (27° Tau 05'R) N Node in the Ninth House Lunar North Node in the Ninth House (or sign). South Node in the third house or sign. This placement gives a thoughtful personality, with a focus on understanding moral or ethical belief systems. You may tend to scatter your energies, especially when young. In the past, or in past lifetimes, you concentrated your attention on superficial relationships of the everyday world. Now in this lifetime, your purpose seems to be to lift your attention toward a synthesis of higher consciousness. You will find great joy in pursuing the broader picture, whether in terms of educational perspectives or perhaps participation in cultures other than your own. Although curiosity regarding details and enjoyment of a multiplicity of points of view comes naturally to you, you must now learn to see the forest instead of the trees. Your focus now will become more and more the pursuit of higher knowledge and a deeper understanding of the motivations of others that was meant by the phrase "to understand all is to forgive all." A true philosophy of compassion is your goal. Lunar North Node in Taurus (or the second house). South Node in the eighth house or sign. This placement gives a personality somewhat focused around the issues of money and material possessions. In a previous period, or past lifetime, you were concerned with the utilization of other people's resources rather than your own. You also may have gotten involved with occult practices, or engaged in deep and even taboo relations with others, factors that shaped your past, and the residue of which still colors your present life experience. Now, in this lifetime, you must learn to marshall your own forces and be a resource unto yourself. You are in the process of clarifying your values, based on a new feeling of independence, having come through the fires of hell, as it were, in order to establish a more stable and lasting sense of self-worth.

Chart Patterns Funnel, focal planet Pluto You have the planetary pattern type called the 'funnel' shape (also known as the 'bucket'). All your planets form a group, with the exception of the focal point, one planet or two planets in conjunction (bucket handle). Your energies tend to be channeled through this focus. You will have abilities in the occupied area of the chart, and goals in the direction of the focal point. The focal planet(s) symbolizes how your energies will be expressed, and where you seek to have your needs met or achieve your purpose. Pluto in the Sixth House (or sign) gives you an intense desire to be of service in the world. This desire can take the form of a compulsion to help others in a way that may not truly be appreciated by the intended beneficiaries. You are slightly obsessed with finding the purity inherent in human activity, and may well be a champion of the environmental movement, or exert yourself strenuously in your job or home setting. You may also become intensely concerned and perhaps even chronically worried over health issues, or you may be apt to stress over organizational detail where the intention is to purify the function of the particular activity, but where attending to the details can become an end in itself. You may go through many profound changes of attitude in these areas, in order to learn how to be of actual service to yourself and others. Creative outlets for your passion might be found in the helping professions, or in working on your own issues in such a way as to regenerate your values and life direction. When you have transformed in these areas you can become a beacon for others to follow. By staying true to your own inner guidance system, you make it possible for others to also, and further the cause of a more self-aware and wisely functioning planetary society. The following applies to your generation as a whole as well as to you personally: Pluto in Aquarius (or the eleventh house) gives you a personality with an intense focus on friendships and group associations. You can perhaps behave compulsively with regard to group membership, or you may feel an unconscious drive toward an objective or goal that you do not fully understand. You have a dynamic and powerful expectation orientation that is constantly pulling you onward, so that you are never satisfied with what you have in front of you, but rather seek the bliss of an improved future for yourself and for the social groups with which you are connected. You like to be liked, and may go through many changes around the development of your own sense of yourself in relation to your friends and associates. You may radically change your group affiliation from time to time in an effort to resolve the unconscious motivations that tie you to its membership. You are also likely to be involved at some point in your life with a movement whose goal is the eventual improvement of society. Your task is to attempt to make conscious choices in these areas, and to become aware of your true objectives, based on your own values and goals, independent from the approval of others.
