4.0 Palm Oil for non-food application

Introduction of palm oil for non food application

Palm oil products, particularly palm kernel oil have become major feedstocks for the oleochemical industry.

The basic oleochemical products are fatty acids, esters, alcohols, nitrogen compounds and glycerol.

Oleochemical products are in turn used in the production of other products such as pharmeceutical, cosmetics, candles, soaps, detergents, lubricants and antifreeze.

4.1 Soap from palm product

Palm oil is produced from the fruit of the oil palm, or Elaeis Guinnesis tree, which originated in West Guinea.

Currently, Malaysia is the largest exporter of Palm Oil in the world.

Our Palm oil is physically refined without the use of chemical solvents, thereby reducing the risk of residue contamination.

Palm oil is used in cold process soap to add to the hardness of the bar and is typically replaced for tallow in all vegetable oil recipes.

Palm Oil and Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) are used in soapmaking as secondary lathering agents and also contribute to a hard bar of soap.

Palm Oil is comprised of liquid and solid oils.

Because of this, it is important to fully melt and stir your palm until it is clear before using it so that it is the right mix of oils every time.

4.2 Oleochemical of Personal care products

Personal care or toiletries is the industry which manufactures consumer products used in personal hygiene and for beautification.

Examples lotion, syampoo, toothpaste and so on.

Ingredients in personal care

4.3 Oleochemical for pharmaceutical product

1. Pharmaceutical products (medicines) or drugs are a fundamental component of both modern and traditional medicine.

2. It is essential that such products are safe, effective, and of good quality, and are prescribed and used rationally.

3. Pharmaceuticals products: Ointment

Emulsion

Gel

Creams

Culture media

Tableting aids

4.4 Oleochemical for Lubricants

1. Oil and grease are the most common substances can be use to lubricate the surface.

2. Grease is composed of oil and a thickening agent to obtain its consistency, while the oil is what actually lubricates.

3. Lubricants and Grease products: Food grade lubricants

4.5 Oleochemical for Agrochemical

Chemical products as a hormone, fungicide or insecticide that help to improve the production of crops

4.6 Oleochemical for Polyurethane foams

Form by monomers which are organic isocyanates and polyols (polyether and polyester)

Polyols can be extracted or synthesized from natural materials such as plants, oils or wood

4.7 Oleochemical for Surface Coatings

Definitions

Surface coating, any mixture of film-forming materials plus pigments, solvents, and other additives, which, when applied to a surface and cured or dried, yields a thin film that is functional and often decorative.

Principal types of coatings:

Paints

Stains

Varnishes

Component materials of surface coatings

Synthetic polymers

Pigments Provide colour, opacity, gloss, and other properties

Solvents or carrier liquids Provide a liquid medium for applying the film-forming ingredients.

Additives Provide a number of special properties.

4.8 Oleochemical for Specialty

Chemicals Definitions

Specialty chemicals are chemical products that are sold on the basis of their performance or function, rather than for their composition.

These include products and sustainable technologies used in :

paints detergents foods plastics cosmetics

construction, pulp and paper pharmaceuticals electronics agro and oilfield applications.

Fatty Alcohol – Non-detergent Applications

Compound Application

Free Alcohol Foam depressants, rolling oil, solvent, lubricants, evaporation control agent, pharmaceutical preparation.

Fatty Ester Emollients, plasticizers

Thiodipropionate esters Antioxidants

„ Alkyl polyglucosides Personal Care, Food Products

Sulfosuccinates esters Household cleaners, wetting agent

„ Polymethacrylate esters Lubricating oils, plasticizers

„ Alkyl phosphates Cosmetic emulsifiers, textile auxiliaries

FATTY ACID- DIRECT USE

RUBBER

„VULCANIZING ADDITIVES IN DRY RUBBER COMPOUNDING PROCESS

„DISPERSING AGENT FOR CARBON BLACK & CONFERRING PLASTICITY TO THE RUBBER PLASTICITY TO THE RUBBER

„VULCANIZATION IS PROMOTED WITH FATTY SOAPS OF ZINC FORMED IN -SITU

„HYDROGENATED TALLOW FATTY ACIDS & STEARIC ACID (1 -5 PARTS/100 PARTS RUBBER)

4.9 Oleochemicals for rubber and plastic

Fatty Acid – Derivative

Plastics N,N Ethylene Bis Stearamide (EBS) Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) and Polyvynil Chloride (PVC) resins as internal lubricant improves polymer flow during injection molding.
