PALM SUNDAY – 9th April ‘17 We see ourselves in the crowds who cried, “Hosanna to
the Son of David" one day and "Crucify Him" just a few
days later”. Like Peter and the other disciples, we can be
fickle followers of Jesus. We should not, however,
imitate Judas and despair at our infidelity. Rather, we
should look to Jesus who allowed His blood to be poured
out for many ”for the forgiveness of sins”. Let us praise
Him with grateful hearts.
READINGS: 9 April '17 - Year A 1st Reading: Is 50:4-7
What we are about to hear is the third Song of the Lord’s Servant. Its content
foreshadows the preaching mission of Jesus and the tortures inflicted on him during his passion.
2nd Reading: Phil 2:6-11
In a few, dramatic sentences, St. Paul summarizes the total self-emptying and the supreme exaltation of God’s Son. Gospel: Mt 26:14 - 27:66
Throughout his passion Jesus was not carried away by the events and circumstances. His only concern was to fulfil the Father’s plan of salvation. That is why he followed the
path of humility and patient endurance.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM - 9 April '17
“My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?"

First – Acts 10:34, 37-43 Second – Col 3:1-4 Gospel – Jn 20:1-9
THE SACRED PASCHAL TRIDUUM of the Passion and Resurrection of the
Lord shines forth as the high point of the entire liturgical year. The Paschal
Triduum of the Passion and Resurrection of the Lord begins with the evening

Good Friday collection 2017 - The annual collection for the support of the church in the Holy Land takes place on Good Friday. This collection promotes the missionary work of the Church in the Holy Land by providing welfare assistance to local Christians in areas such as health, education, employment and housing. Parishes, schools, orphanages and medical centres throughout the Holy Land also rely on assistance from the Good Friday collection. The collection is also used to maintain 74 churches and shrines associated with the life of Jesus. Last year, Australian Catholics donated $1.4 million to this cause, despite tough economic times, rural droughts and increasing cost of living which put a strain on family budgets and financial resources. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please remember the Christians of the Holy Land again on this Good Friday. Please also pray that peace and harmony will become a reality in the birthplace of Jesus, the “Prince of Peace”.
