CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O God of Glory, we confess that our praise of Your majesty has too often been insincere and our behavior as citizens of Your Kingdom treasonous. Forgive us for our zeal for making our names great, which robs You of Your glory and honor. Pardon us for resisting Your kingship and seeking to be our own authority. You sent Your Son to rescue us. For our rebellion, He died. For our restoration, He rose. Now by Your Spirit, ride into our hearts with Your healing grace. Transform us and renew us that with sincere hearts we may delight in You and live for the glory of Your name. We pray this in the blessed name of Jesus, our King.

Preparation for WorshipAs you enter the Sanctuary, please prepare your heart for worship

and silence your mobile devices.

On Palm Sunday, we celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, fulfilling Zechariah’s prophecy of the coming King who brings salvation and peace . But as we rejoice and shout “Hosanna” together, it is important that we capture the irony of the day .This is the moment Israel eagerly waited for, expecting a mighty military ruler, not a gentle King riding a lowly donkey . This is the day on which Jesus entered the city in triumph, but as a part of His journey to the cross . This is the week in which the crowd’s cries of “Hosanna” would soon turn to “Crucify Him!” This is the beginning of the climax of God’s redemptive plan to save the world, not by conquering the world, but by dying for it .As we enter into worship today, let us prepare our hearts by contemplating the glory of this King — the One who purposefully rode toward the cross, the One who saved those who hated Him, and the One who redeemed the world by dying for it .

Welcome, Guests!

If you are visiting with us today, we welcome you to Second Presbyterian . Please sign our Friendship Pad, which will be passed during the Greetings time of the service . Our Congregational Communities (CCs), also known as Sunday School classes, offer a wide variety of options for various age groups and stages of life . Visiting a CC (Sundays at 9:45 a .m .) is the best way to get to know others and become involved . Visit 2pc.org/cc for a list of classes. Children in Worship: We consider it a privilege for children to worship with us . If your children become restless and vocal, feel free to visit the “soundproof” Cry Room at the back of the Sanctuary . Worship bags including material specifically designed for children are available at the Nursery desk .

Weekly Focus on Missions

World Missions: In 2002, Dr. Raju and Catherine Abraham moved from London to rural Uttar Pradesh, India to begin Kachhwa Transformational Ministries . KTM serves the poor through spiritual transformation, hospital services, community health development, primary education, and vocational and leadership training . Last year, the daily operation of KTM was turned over to the next generation of leaders, giving Raju the opportunity to concentrate on church planter/pastor training and to work with Christian leaders to develop a strategic plan to evangelize India . These leaders are challenging local churches to be proactive in evangelism, despite pressure from the government . Pray for the Indian church to grow and be strong despite increasing government hostility . Pray for the Lord to continue to use the Abrahams to bless the many in India . Mission Memphis: Since 2004, Families Matter has worked to increase the number of healthy, loving, and caring families in our city . Our partners there ask that we join them in prayer for students who are suffering and in need of many items that will help them to advance in school . Pray also for the students’ teachers to be understanding and supportive . Finally, pray for the FM staff to remain healthy so they can continue to positively influence students and their families .

Sunday Night Worship

We gather each Sunday night at 6:00 in the Sanctuary for a service of prayer, praise, and teaching from God’s Word . We invite you to come back this evening to worship with us!
