    1 GENERAL PRECAUTIONS

1.1. Before Using This ManualThere are 2 kinds of Service Manuals for KV-S1025C.

One is the Service Manual for the original product KV-S1025C. The other is Service Manual for the new product KV-S1025C-S.

You will define which manual is available by checking a Serial Number on the name plate as follows.

    (1) Serial Number (853xxxxxxxx, 856xxxxxxxx, 857xxxxxxxx, 858xxxxxxxx, 859xxxxxxxx, 860xxxxxxxx, 861xxxxxxxx,

    862xxxxxxxx)

See the original Service Manual for KV-S1025CSERIES / KV-S1020C SERIES (Order No.: KM70603158CE)

and the subsequent Supplement Service Manuals*.

Note: * We have issued the following Supplement Service Manuals as of March 8th, 2011. Supplement-1 Manual for KV-S1025C / S1020C SERIES (Order No.: KM70606177SE)

    Supplement-2 Manual for KV-S1025C / S1020C SERIES (Order No.: KM70703274SE)

    Supplement-3 Manual for KV-S1025C / S1020C SERIES (Order No.: KM70709323SE

    Supplement-4 Manual for KV-S1025C / S1020C (Order No.: KM71102639SE)

    (2) Serial Number (E24xxxxxxxx)

See the following section on this manual.

1.2. Safety Precautions1. Before servicing, unplug the power cord to prevent electrical shock hazard.

    2. When replacing parts, use only manufactures recommended components for safety.

    3. Check the condition of power cord. Replace if wear or damage is evident.

    4. After servicing, be sure to restore the wire dressing, insulation barriers, insulation papers, shields, etc.

    5. Before returning the serviced equipment to the customer, perform the following electrical tests to prevent shock hazard.

1.3. For Service TechniciansICs and LSIs are vulnerable to static electricity. When repairing, the following precautions will help to prevent recurring malfunctions.

    1. Cover the plastic parts with aluminum foil.

    2. Ground the soldering irons.

    3. Use a conductive mat on the worktable.

    4. Do not grasp IC or LSI pins with bare fingers.

1.4. About Lead Free Solder (PbF: Pb free)Note

In the information below, Pb, the symbol for lead in the periodic table of elements, will refer to standard solder or solder

    that contains lead.

We will use PbF when discussing the lead free solder used in our manufacturing process which is made from Tin (Sn),

    Silver (Ag), and Copper (Cu).

This model, and others like it, manufactured using lead free solder will have PbF stamped on the PCB. For service and

repair work we suggest using the same type of solder.

Distinction of PbF PCB PCBs (manufactured) using lead free solder will have a PbF stamp on the PCB.

    Caution PbF solder has a melting point that is 50 - 70 F, (30 - 40 C) higher than Pb solder.

Please use a soldering iron with temperature control and adjust it to 700 20 F (370 10 C).

Exercise care while using higher temperature soldering irons.: Do not heat the PCB for too long time in order to

prevent solder splash or damage to the PCB.

PbF solder will tend to splash if it is heated much higher than its melting point, approximately 1100 F, (600 C).

When applying PbF solder to double layered boards, please check the component side for excess solder which may

flow onto the opposite side (See figure below).

1.4.1. Suggested Pb free solderWe recommend you to use the following solder when re-soldering components for repair. Before using other Pb free solder than the

following solder, make sure to confirm that the solder maker (you use) has the license agreement for Pb free solder.

1.5. About RoHSThis product is fully compliant with the national laws transposed from the EU Directive on the restriction of the use of certain

hazardous substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipment, effective 1st July 2006 in the EU countries.

In order for the product to comply with the RoHS Directive, the six particular substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent

chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers) have been either totally eliminated or limited to theconcentration level below maximum allowed. Consequently spare parts have been changed to RoHS-compliant parts where

    applicable.

Due to spare parts application of RoHS legislation, non-compliant spare parts cannot be used to repair compliant products put on

the EU market on or after 1st July 2006. Please therefore make sure to order and use RoHS-compliant spare parts listed in this

    manual.

1.6. Standard for Repair ServiceRepair service shall be provided in accordance with repair technology information such as service manual

so as to prevent fires, injury or electric shock, which can be caused by improper repair work.

    1. When performing repairs, neither the product nor its parts or components shall be modified.

    2. If cable assembly is supplied as the smallest unit when servicing, make sure to replace

    the cable assembly.

    6 MECHANICAL FUNCTION

    6.1. Paper Feed Mechanism

    Fig. 6.1

    1. When the document is set on the Feed Tray, and its presence is detected by the Paper Sensor, the scanning command

from PC will allow the Conveyor Motor to be driven, which will rotate the Paper Feed Roller, Conveyor Roller, and Exit Roller

in the direction of the arrows.

    2. When the document enters into the separation section inside the paper feed section, the Double-feed Prevention Roller

(supported by shaft fixed via a torque limiter) exerts a manipulation force onto the document, which depends on the

set torque. In case of continuous paper feed, the 1st document is separated from the 2nd or more documents by this manipulation

force, and is fed to the scanning section.

    3. When the leading edge of the document advances to the Conveyor Roller position, the document is conveyed at a faster

speed, that is 2.6 times as fast as the speed of the Paper Feed position.

    4. When the leading edge of the document pushes down the Starting Sensors arm, the leading edge is detected, and

scanning the image will start after a certain interval.

    5. When the trailing edge of the document passes through the separation section, the continuous rotation of the Paper Feed

Roller during a series of scanning, enables the following document to be conveyed.

(Different speed between the rotation of the Conveyor Roller and that of the Paper Feed Roller rotation makes up a distance

between the 1st document and the 2nd.)

    6. Repeat the above steps 2 to 5.

    7. When the Paper Sensor detects no document, and the Starting Sensor detects the trailing edge of the document, the

Conveyor Motor will stop rotating after a certain interval to end a series of scanning sequence.

Note:When the scanners buffer becomes full, the scanner stops to prevent buffer overflow, while allowing the data

to be transferred to the PC continuously. When enough free buffer area is secured again, the scanner resumes

    the scanning process.

    6.2. Sensor Mechanism

6.2.1. Paper Sensor The Paper Sensor turns ON, when the document is properly placed on the Feed Tray, pushing the arm up away from the

    sensor.

    6.2.2. Starting Sensor

The Starting Sensor turns ON when the document is fed to the scanning-start position, pushing the arm down away from the sensor.

6.2.3. Door Detector The Door Detector turns OFF when the ADF Door is closed, interrupting the detector with the claw.

    Note 2:

The maintenance schedule was determined according to paper standards (A4: 80 g/m2 / Letter: 20 lb.), which can vary greatly between users. Therefore, the values can also vary.
