Panopto Basic Editing The Panopto editor allows for easy web based editing from any modern browser. You can perform quick, non-destructive edits to any video on the Panopto platform and deliver exactly the content you choose to viewers.

You may wish to edit your recording for one or many of the following reasons: To remove the start and end sequences to make it more concise (topping and tailing). To remove (middle) section that do not contribute to the tone or content of the overall recording. To remove material following disruptions, copyright issues or unexpected events. If your audience require a brief and polished product.

Once logged into Panopto web interface, click on the Edit icon on the session you want to change.

Or alternatively, on the actual recording’s screen, click on the same icon in the top right corner of the window.

This will open up a new tab in your browser for the Panopto editor.

To edit your video use the editing timeline visible in the bottom right hand section of the screen. This timeline represents the entire length of your video showing each stream of content that makes up your session.

The left side of the timeline is the start of your video, the right hand side is the end of the video.

You can expand the timeline by selecting the arrow to show more detail

To begin editing, select the ‘Cut’ tool.

To edit out the start of the video, click and drag the edit handle from the left to the right. To edit out the end of the video, click and drag the edit handle from the right to the left

To cut a section from the middle of video, position the cursor over the point you would like to start the edit, click and drag to the right and then let go at the point you want the cut to finish. This will remove the area highlighted from the video, and add a new handle at each edit point to allow you to finely trim your cut. The red crosses below highlight the areas that will not be shown to viewers. Editing in Panopto is non-destructive, so you can add this content back in later if you need to.

Primary Stream Editing

New in Panopto 5.3 is the ability to switch back and forth between two primary streams.

Use the focus tool in the red box below when there are multiple primary streams on a session timeline. This will choose which primary stream is visible at a given point in the timeline.

Within the new Panopto editor you have the ability to change the focus of the content recorded when multiple screens have been captured. Normally when multiple screens are captured the viewer is given the option to switch between the screens throughout the recording. The focus edit tools allows you to decide which stream they view at anytime, ensuring they do not miss any important content.

From within the editor you can use the ‘Focus’ focus tool tool to bring the secondary or primary stream into the focus. By selecting parts of the stream using the focus tool you will force the other stream to be shown.

You can also change the stream times if you want to shift the primary videos by clicking on the streams tab shown below.
