Zac Macaulay Films provide underwater film and stills sequences for commercials, TV, drama and movies alike, shooting on location, or in specialised underwater film studios, with full specialist production facilities that are associated with the job.

This includes lighting (topside or underwater), specialist safety crew, and boating requirements (rib or hard hull) to suit.

Alternatively we own and shoot with a Gates Red Epic Dragon or Weapon combination at 6K or 8K with remote follow focus control to surface. Port options are 8 or 10 inch dome port or flat mineral glass ports. All optimised to accommodate cinema and stills lenses. The housing is a Gates Deep Weapon housing which is ultra reliable.

We use a Nauticam housing for a Alexa Mini. This supports Alexa's own WCU4, 3 axis lens control system through 30-45m long hard wired cables from surface to camera, and the kit comes with glass flat and dome ports for different focal lengths.

The 3 axis control allows the focus puller to control focus, iris, zoom and to turn the camera over. The WCU4 system allows complete access to the camera menu settings for fast changes underwater.

Picture to surface is through a 30-45m long HDSDI cable and there is an optional 45m long 24v power cable into the housing allowing batteries to be hot swapped and avoiding the camera powering down.

Lenses up to 120mm diameter can be supported inside the housing which supports a modular ring build on the front end to accurately fit the length of different cinema lenses.

The Arri Alexa Mini and the Gates/Red kit come with everything you need to get shooting straight away, including underwater grip, consisting of tripod, low legs, tripod head, surface float and underwater slider, if required.

Our two well maintained housed camera systems are available for hire with or without a safety team, or dive co ordinator and focus puller. However, Zac would normally expect to be accompanied by his experienced technical camera assistant.

About Zac MacaulayZac has worked with some of the best people in the business, including specialist studios, riggers and lighting gaffers (amongst other professions), in a career as an underwater cameraman and photographer that has taken him and his crew all over the world.

He has shot for a wide variety of production companies and agencies, both advertising and editorial, for many varied clients. He likes to use a strong graphic element in his style, using colour and composition as a thread that runs through his work.

He is very at home as a team player in a film crew, and is as happy shooting commercial advertising shoots in purpose-built flooded studios, tanks or private pools for ultimate control, as he is in the open sea, or location on assignment.

He has built up countless fix it contacts all around the world to help facilitate your production and a large knowledge of locations to help you find that special beach or bay just right for your shoot.

HSE QualificationIn line with the HSE Media Diving Code of Practice, Zac holds the all important HSE qualification, a legal requirement to work underwater in the UK with crew, underwater studios and lighting productions.
