Take Home Tuesday Folders: We will be sending weekly communication home via the Take Home Tuesday folder. Each student has a personalized folder. Please be sure to check your child’s backpack each week for important updates, reminders and our weekly Panther Post. Empty the folder and send it back to school by Monday of each week.

Noche de Regreso a Clases: Únase a nosotros mañana de 6p-8pm para nuestra Noche Anual de Regreso a Clases. Las familias tendrán la oportunidad de aprender acerca de los increíbles resultados de nuestra escuela en la Asociación para la Evaluación de la Preparación para la Universidad y las Carreras Profesionales (PARCC por sus siglas en ingles), las estructuras del salón de clases y las asociaciones de la comunidad! El cuidado de niños para los estudiantes de ECE y Kindergarten será proporcionado de 6pm-6:40pm. Asegúrese de llegar a tiempo para que no se pierda nada! Nos vemos mañana.

Carpetas verdes de casa de los martes: Enviaremos comunicación semanal a casa a través de la carpeta verde los días martes. Cada estudiante tiene una carpeta personalizada. Por favor, asegúrese de revisar la mochila de su hijo cada semana para ver si hay actualizaciones importantes, recordatorios y nuestro Boletín Pantera semanal. Vacíe la carpeta y envíela de vuelta a la escuela el lunes de cada semana.

I would like to take this moment to welcome you and your child to Marie Reed ES for the 2018-19 school year!

It is with great pleasure that I inform you that Marie Reed ES is a Title I school for the 2018-2019 school year. Because 35% or more of our school population has signed up for free and reduced meals, we are eligible to receive additional federal funding to help provide our school with professional development, parent involvement activities, and other academic programming designed to help your child succeed in school this year.

Being a parent at a Title I School is a great privilege and responsibility. We need the support from our parents to ensure our students reach their full academic potential. We hope that you will consider taking an active role in our school—reach out to your child’s teacher(s) regularly, attend or volunteer at the school activities, and help guide our school policies.

We will have a table set up for you to learn more about Title I funds during our Back to School Night on September 12th 2018. You will have the opportunity to learn more about how we are using our Title I funds to provide services to your child and what we all (students, parents, teachers, and administrators) are accountable for in ensuring your child’s success.

September 4, 2018 Dear Parents and Families: The health and safety of your child is paramount to all of us at DC Public Schools (DCPS). To ensure the

safety of our drinking water, the Department of General Services (DGS) conducts water testing in all

DCPS buildings. Filtration systems are installed on all drinking water sources and those sources are

tested annually for lead.

Per District of Columbia law, all drinking water sources must be tested, and results must be below 5

parts per billion (ppb) of lead, which is the standard to which the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

regulates lead concentration in bottled water.

For School Year 2018-2019, all filters will be replaced and DGS will conduct testing for lead in all drinking

water sources. To see the specific testing dates for your child’s school, please visit https://dcps.dc.gov/page/water-testing-lead. If a drinking water source tests above 5 ppb of lead, it will be immediately removed from service while

we communicate results to families and share how DGS is working to fix the issue. Per the District’s Water Filtration and Testing Protocol, remediation can include placing new filters on the source, and in

some instances, replacing faucets, connections, and other plumbing components. A drinking water source will not be returned to operation until it is tested again and results show a reading below 5 ppb.

With the exception of sinks in early childhood education classrooms, sinks in bathrooms, classrooms,

and utility closets are not drinking water sources and are safe for hand washing only. These sources are

clearly labeled to instruct students not to drink water from them. Please use the following websites as resources to learn more about lead, review the national standards

for water safety in schools, and read through testing protocol, respectively:

Estimados Padres y Familias: La salud y seguridad de su hijo/a es de suma importancia para todos nosotros en las Escuelas Publicas de DC

(EPDC). Para garantizar la seguridad de nuestra agua potable, el Departamentos de Servicios Generales (Department of General Services (DGS)) lleva a cabo pruebas de agua en todos los edificios de las EPDC. El año escolar pasado, se

instalaron sistemas de filtros nuevos en todas las fuentes de agua potable y todas fueron probadas nuevamente

para medir los niveles de plomo.

Según la ley en el Distrito de Columbia, todas las fuentes de agua potable deben estar por debajo del nivel

establecido por la Administracion de Alimentos y Drogas (Food and Drug Administration (FDA)) de 5 ppb (partes por billon)

para el agua embotellada.

Para el Año Escolar 2018-2019, todos los filtros serán reemplazados y la DGS llevará a cabo pruebas para medir

aquellas que resultaron elevadas. Para saber las fechas especificas de las pruebas en la escuela de su hijo/a, visite

https://dcps.dc.gov/page/water-testing-lead. Si una fuente de agua potable resulta tener un nivel elevado de 5 ppb, la misma será puesta fuera de servicio inmediatamente, se le comunicarán los resultados a las familias y cómo DGS estará resolviendo este problema.

Según el Protocolo para Filtrar y Probar el Agua en el Distrito (District’s Water Filtration and Testing Protocol), resolver el

problema puede incluir, instalar filtros nuevos en las fuentes de agua, y en algunos casos, reemplazar los grifos, conexiones y otros componentes de plomería. Una fuente de agua potable no será puesta en servicio hasta que se pruebe nuevamente y su resultado sea por debajo de 5 ppb.

Las fuentes de agua no potables, como los lavabos del baño, del salón de clases y del armario de utilidad, son

seguros solo para lavarse las manos. Estas fuentes de agua están claramente etiquetadas para dejarle saber a

los/as estudiantes que no deben tomar el agua de ellas. Utilice las siguientes páginas web como recursos para obtener más información sobre el plomo, revisar los
