November was another exciting month for our students at Collins. An array of speakers presented to our students about their specific career(s). Each grade had the opportunity to focus on at least four diverse occupations. Ask your child to share with you what they learned during Career Week/ Great American Teach-In. We are planting seeds for tomorrow’s world and you are such an important part of it! On behalf of our students, a very special thank you goes out to our own parents that participated! We truly had some of the very best parents in our state presenting.
The word for December is Caring! We are also including Fairness. At Collins, we want our students to care about others and treat all students fairly. Caring is such an important character trait! Encourage your child to care about others and practice being fair. Share with them examples of how you express these traits with others. Let them know that everyone’s feelings count! December is the perfect month for Caring/Fairness.
Great character is such an integral part of our school climate! The Mendez Foundation and Kids on the Block have been busy presenting programs that reinforce this. Please remember that bullying is absolutely not acceptable at Collins. If you become aware of any situations, please contact me, your child’s teacher, and/or administration. We are here for you and your child(ren). Our county also has an online bully reporting system available if you should ever need it. Although I have been in your child’s classroom, it is important to continue to review with your child that bullying is absolutely not acceptable and help them differentiate between what a conflict is and being bullied. Your support is so greatly appreciated!!!!
Watch your PTA calendar: Dec. 2– November Terrific Kids and Thankful students. Exciting events continue to happen at our school!
December also marks the upcoming announcement of our first peer mediators. Our new fourth grade mediators will begin training this month, which will include a day with our fifth grade mediators at Camp Cristina. Our new peer mediators will be joining Kayla Wilson, Lindsay Jackson, Carolyn Kelley, David Dozier, John Michael Kyker, and Nick Bremer who have been busy using their mediation skills.
We are truly glad that you are a part of Collins Elementary. Many of our career guests stated that we are the Best!!!

Greetings from Collins Café,
We hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holidays with their family and friends. We truly have so much to be thankful for.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Feast for our students on Wednesday November 17th. They really enjoyed the turkey and all the fixins especially the sweet potato cake!
Student Nutrition Services will continue to follow up this year’s theme for National School Lunch; What’s on your tray!
We encourage our students to try new items, for example, our Yogurt parfaits at Breakfast, and Chicken Penne Pasta, Turkey Pot Roast, okra, carrot soufflé, to name a few at Lunch!
We still are struggling to meet the goals the District has set for Collins Breakfast and Lunch Participation. Breakfast should be 40.7% we are 38 % and Lunch should be 61.1% we are 55 %.
We will continue to offer great choices as well as promotions to increase these percentages.
Free and reduced applications can be filled out any time during the school year. They are available in the main office as well as my office.
We would like to wish all our Collins families a safe and wonderful Holiday Season.
Till next time,
