It is a pair of paper glasses without len-ses, but with a statement: Sharper look! The man behind the PAPP UP paper glasses is designer and performance artist Cantemir Gheorghiu, who initially started the idea off as a simple joke re-garding the forced nerdy look of hipsters, especially regarding their over-sized glasses. Once inside a club, he had ma-naged to trade his paper frames for a free drink with the barmaid and the story began.

It is in the heart of Berlin – Kreuzberg – where Cantemir is constantly working on new designs the vision of PAPP UP was extended with the invention of the PAPP UV: Sustainable sunglasses out of wood leftovers, hand-made in a social work-shop in Berlin, equipped with a UV400 polarisation filter, flexible, durable and super light – eye-catching shades for any sunny day in different colours and

shapes. Cantemir has brought the flexib-le lenses to the front of the frame giving the sunglasses a rare futuristic look. The idea of the PAPP UV was to create a durable sunglasses for Berlin’s daily life and festivals.

2014 PAPP UP is expanding the idea of the PAPP UV with new reading glas-ses – the PAPP READERs: sustainable reading glasses with genius twist. PAPP READERs are so slim, they can easy work as a bookmark, staying there where you need them – with your books and papers. Made out of flexible nylon, the lenses are shatterproof and bendable, they easily survive in your back pocket. PAPP REA-DERs are available in a range of +1 to +3 dpt and three different kind of tints: classic clear, tint black and tint brown surrounded by the favourite and classic PAPP UV POET frame.

The PAPP UV are popular not only for their contemporary and minimalist design in four shapes and two diffe-rent hues, they also have properties and advantages that ordinary sun glasses do no have. Made from an organic combination of woodleftovers, the PAPP UV frame, is created from a single part and is thus lightweight and extremely flexible and resilient. So much so that they can easily be stored in a book or in a pant pocket without breaking. But there are also other cha-racteristics make PAPP UV a favourite item for our times. With regard to sun protection, PAPP UV offers a UV 400 polarization filter, which is guaranteed by a certified optician test: PAPP UVs are tested for category 3, which is for waterside and evem mountain use.

The PAPP UV provides more comfort due to the curvature of the lenses, the more durable material and the exten-ded length of the adjustable temples. Recent laser cut technique and the inner engraved logo give the sunglas-ses an urban flair and a genius appea-rance.Another characteristic is that the PAPP UV are coated with a hypo-all-ergenic and water repellent wood oil. The bendable aluminium temple tips can be easily adjusted to achieve the perfect fit. PAPP UV takes great pride in the fact that it is both handcrafted in Berlin, Germany and a sustainable product.

The genius design of the PAPP UVs continues with super flat reading glasses. The PAPP READERs. The weight of the PAPP READERs is per-fect for longer reading sessions of fairy tales, love letters, newspapers, horoscopes and even reminders.

The monolithic lenses are so flat, that the PAPP READERs can easily be used as a bookmark. The nylon lenses are very bendable and provides a crystal clear view of the world with almost being unbreakable. The reworked frames are made out of wood lefto-vers in expressive food safe colours and adjust easily to your head with

the bendable bows. Super flat, flexib-le, sustainable eyewear for every day use. The PAPP READERs are available in a variety of colour combinations: Three different tinted lenses and four frame colours make a hard choice to choose from crystal clear, sundown brown and moonlight black for the tinted lenses and frame colours in black, natura, bordeux and sky blue with a scale dioptre of +1 to +3. Each reader is packed in a paper case with velcro closing.

In order to continue the sustainable idea, PAPP UP’s products are assem-bled in a social workshop in Berlin. In cooperation with the Mosaik Work-shop and their network the PAPP UVs and PAPP READERs are handmade out of 16 components by handicapped workers in the heart of Berlin-Kreuz-berg.

The oiling process with wood oil pro-vides the water resistance and gives the frame the finished look. The assembling of each part from benda-ble metal part, tiny lens rivets with graved in logo and UV protection len-ses are crafted with care. Each part of the glasses is carefully manufactured to fulfill the standards of high-quality eyewear.

PRODUCTION &SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

PAPP UV displays contain 24 sunglas-ses in four compartments: Each style in each colour. Minimum order is one display, every re-order is a unit of 6 sunglasses.
