What You Need to KnowCosta Rica is well known for its ecotourism. This small country is famousfor its abundant wildlife as well as the exotic and threatened ecosystems itis trying to preserve. Costa Rica's national parks cover almost 12% of theland; biological reserves and wildlife refuges are abundant too. Visitorshope to see some of the more than 850 species of birds and 600 species ofexotic mammals-including three-toed sloth, tapirs, coatis, giant anteaters,peccaries, and jungle cats. Tropical flowers such as orchids and bromeliadsalso abound. Parks like the one described here attract tourists from aroundthe world.
