WALTER SCOTT’S

The versatile actor, 60, who earlier this year received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Whiplash, has played a shrink on Law & Order, a neo-Nazi on the HBO series Oz and is the face of Farmers Insurance on TV commercials. Now he’s a cop in Terminator Genisys, opening July 1.

Q: Will Glen Campbell be touring or recording again? —Kathy Albert, Hempstead, N.Y.

A: Unfortunately, no. The fi ve-time Grammy-winning singer of “Gentle on My Mind,” “Southern Nights” and “Rhinestone Cowboy,” 79, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011, now lives in a memory-care facility in Nashville, Tenn., and

has lost the ability to carry on a conversation. But he can still say, “I love you,” says his wife of nearly 33 years, Kim. His struggle with the

disease was chronicled in an acclaimed 2014 documen-tary, Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, which will make its world-wide television premiere tonight on CNN.

1. She is appalled by bad grammar and corrects people’s poorly composed texts.

2. Three words she uses to describe herself are controlling, loyal and eccentric.

3. In addition to starring in Dear John (2010), she wrote “Little House,” one of the songs on the soundtrack.

5. The Twitter account @fi nn_seyfried

belongs to her Australian shepherd, Finn.

Mean No MoreLes Misérables star Amanda Seyfried, 29, is going for laughs in the just-released Ted 2—a long way from her 2004 fi lm debut in Mean Girls. Here’s more about the Allentown, Pa.-born actress.

J.K.SIMMONS

What was it like to work with Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator Genisys? “What struck me when he walked into the room for the fi rst time is he’s just impres-sive—I mean, he was Mr. Universe [fi ve times]! But actually, he’s a very approach-able guy.”

When fans come up to you, what do they want to talk about? “It’s a really long list now. Lately, it’s been more about Whip-lash, but there was a guy that came up to me in a fast food place and all he wanted to talk about was The Closer [2005]. A couple of months ago, somebody came up to me and he had seen me in an off-Broadway musical, Das Barbecu, in 1994.”

You played a music teacher in Whiplash. What role does music play in your life?“I’m not a musician, but I studied music in college. Then I quickly segued into musi-cal theater, and then theater and then what I do now. My father was a musician, my brother was a musician and the genes have defi nitely passed down: Our kids—Joe and Olivia—are 16 and 13 and both budding musicians.”

Now that you’ve won an Oscar, what’s different in your career? “I’m trying to take advantage of a lot of great offers, but not work a billion hours a day, 52 weeks a year, and keep in mind that really the priority is real life.”

Tell me about Sara Rue. I just discovered her new comedy

Impastor and am glad to see her

back on TV.—Victoria S.,

West Valley City, Utah

Q

A: The native New York-er, 36, began her acting career at age 9 in Rocket Gibraltar (1988). Her TV credits include Popular, Less Than Perfect, The Big Bang Theory and

Rules of Engagement. On the new TV Land comedy

series Impastor, airing Wednesday nights, she plays Dora, the church

assistant to a small-time crook who hides out by

impersonating a minister.

4. She began modeling at age 11 with jobs for The Limited Too and on the cover of three Sweet Valley High books.

Set a casual tone for a Southern Soirée like Carla Hall’s with bandanas ($3 each, bandanas.net) as napkins. Serve glasses of your favorite iced tea on a rustic-chic galvanized metal tray ($15, worldmarket.com).

If you’re throwing Michael Symon’s Cleveland-Style Clambake, stock up on disposable lobster bibs ($2 for four, bedbathandbeyond.com).

This oilcloth tablecloth ($60, mexicansugarskull.com) is similar to the ones Mario Batali uses for his Michigan Beach Party. The rowboat-shaped serving bowl with oar paddles ($65, uncommongoods.com) rounds out

the fi sh-camp theme.

Tiki torches ($30 for four, tikibrand.com) are a festive summertime

Carla Hall’s Southern Soirée“Summer reminds me of family reunions, get-togethers with friends, being out of school and living in Nashville,” says cookbook author Hall, who was a Top Chef fi nalist. To create a party table that feels welcoming and warm, she thows on a rustic printed tablecloth, loads up a galvanized-steel tray with

glasses of iced tea, serves baked beans in a cast-iron skillet and coleslaw in a crock, fi lls crates with cookies, uses bandanas for napkins and tucks

wildfl owers into Mason jars wrapped with twine. She rounds out her Southern Soirée theme with a soundtrack of old-school R&B. “It’s music that makes you feel like it’s a lazy day.”

Michael Symon’s Family-Friendly Clambake“Food is all about interaction, so I always try to do something that can be served family-style,” says James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef Symon, who is a regular on Iron Chef America and is the chef/owner of several Cleveland restaurants. His signature clambake is dumped right on a picnic table covered with a disposable tablecloth, along with plastic lobster bibs, rolls of paper towels and bowls fi lled with lemon water. “People go at it with their hands,” he says. “ is is a food you want to eat when you’re wearing shorts and fl ip fl ops and you don’t care if some shrimp juice falls on your shirt. When you’re done, you can just pull up all four corners of the tablecloth and throw it out.” e backdrop is Symon’s soundtrack, which ranges from Snoop Dogg’s “Gin & Juice” to Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” and the Lumineers’ “Flowers in Your Hair.”

LAVENDER BERRY SLAB PIEHall likes to serve this rustic sheet-pan pie as a portable treat wrapped in waxed paper. We use

refrigerated pie dough, but visit Parade.com/piecrust to fi nd Hall’s crust.

1. Line bottom of oven with a sheet of foil. Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease an 18 x 13-inch sheet pan.

2. Combine all dough and roll into a 24 x 19-inch rectangle on a lightly fl oured surface (dough will be very thin). Cut in half crosswise. Line bottom of sheet pan with 1 piece of dough.

3. Gently toss berries, sugar, cornstarch, zest and juice of 2 lemons in a large mixing bowl. Pour fi lling into sheet pan.

4. Cut remaining dough crosswise into 5 (13 x ½ -inch) strips and lengthwise into 4 (18 x ½-inch) strips. Arrange strips in a lattice pattern.

5. Whisk together egg and cream. Lightly brush egg wash over top of lattice crust. Combine Lemon-Lavender Sugar ingredients in a blender or spice grinder. Pulse to combine; sprinkle over top of pie. Bake 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt, if desired. Cool slightly before serving. Serves 8-10.

Mario’s Michigan Beach PartyJames Beard Foundation Award-winning chef Batali and his family head to the Michigan coast every year. “To me, it’s not only summer; it’s freedom, tradition and a time to unplug,” the Iron Chef, author and chef/owner of several restaurants says. Batali sets a simple table. “ ere are always these amazing fi nds at the beach, and that’s what we use as décor.” Sand, driftwood and shells become the centerpiece atop a simple oilcloth tablecloth. Music is always playing in the background: “Early in the day, I’ll play Bach cello concertos with Yo-Yo Ma, then Dave Brubeck and the Allman Brothers. From there it’s Jack White and Detroit Motown.”

Ask MarilynBy Marilyn vos Savant

Say you have four specially marked dice. Two players each select one, and the player who rolls a higher number wins. The faces are 1-1-1-5-5-5, 2-2-2-2-6-6, 3-3-3-3-3-3 and 4-4-4-4-0-0. You’re given the first choice. Which die should you choose? —Tom Moore, Ojai, Calif.

Here’s a brain-bending challenge for you, puzzlers: I’ll tell you which die is the strongest (meaning that it will score more wins when played against all the other dice), and you figure out why it doesn’t matter which die you choose! The answer will appear June 29 at Parade.com. (Click on Ask Marilyn.) OK, ready? The strongest die is 2-2-2-2-6-6. Have fun!
