much work

in even a
small publi-
cation such
as this.
My idea was
just to find a
template and
copy and
paste all the
information
from our
website,
however, it quickly be-
came clear that it would
take a great deal more
work than just this to put
together a magazine wor-
thy of bearing the title the
PARANORMAL
WATCH.
The very idea, I could fill a
magazine with just up-
dates from the UKBPA
and actually keep people
interested, now seems like
a bit of a joke, so after
scouring the internet for
items, writing ghost sto-
ries, haunted locations
that I was aware of, inter-
viewing groups and fea-
turing investigations, here
it is! I hope you enjoy
reading it as much as I
have putting it together
(even though it was hard
work!)

Welcome to the First Ever
edition of the PARA-
NORMAL WATCH!
This month has been a
busy month for all in-
volved with the UKBPA,
whilst the big boss, Brian
has been hard at work ne-
gotiating a deal for the
Paranormal License ID
cards made by TandIM
VestiGO, Clint has been
rushing about, contacting
venues and webstores,
obtaining discounts for
our members.
With more and more peo-
ple coming on board and
joining the UKBPA, as
well as the introduction of
the Paranormal License,
we have literally been
rushed off our feet!
Elsewhere within the or-
ganization, we have been
busy re-organizing our-
selves with a bit more
structure, we now have a
committee, and are now
operating an area rep pol-
icy.
This enables us to break
the UK down into man-
ageable areas and have
one or more reps for that
area able to deal with en-
quiries on a personal level.
This frees up the committee
members to do the other
essential jobs that are
needed to keep the UKBPA
running to our maximum
level, so we can provide our
services to you, our mem-
bers.
I have been hard at work
compiling a grant funding
application, something
which took the best part of
45 hours to do properly and
something I must admit I
underestimated how much
work was involved with
doing.
But the grant application
had been submitted to
HBOS now, and all being
well, we should hear within
a few weeks if we have been
successful or not in our ap-
plication for a donation of
up to £500,000 to keep us
running, and set us up with
an office.
In truth I don't think
should we be accepted for a
donation that we will get
anywhere near that
amount, but at this stage,
anything would help out
with running costs, and
would be equally as grate-
fully received as it would
helpful.
On top of that, came com-
piling and editing the very
first edition of the PARA-
NORMAL WATCH,
which again, was some-
thing I underestimated how

rates the association’s distinctive
‘haunted house’ logo, carries three
pieces of information plus the
member’s picture: the member’s
name; the club to which he or she
belongs; and the member’s unique
paranormal licence number.
The cards, are produced by Leeds-
based TandIM VestiGO, ‘the
Photo ID Card People’,

significantly lower the cost of pro-
ducing these cards for the UKBPA
and its members so we can keep
costs to a minimum in order to
make our members lives easier
and cheaper to go about your
business.
The License/card is another step
towards achieving greater recogni-
tion and professionalism for the
UKBPA and its members.
Brian Lambert—BPA Foun-
Over the last few years, we have
managed to keep the BPA up and
running from my own funds, but
now as we are growing and moving
onwards we are desperately seeking
funds therefore it was decided by the
committee that we should introduce
a small registrations fees, we
have looked very hard at the
pricing so you as members
are getting the best value.
By us introducing a one off
fee then a yearly membership
fee at a lower price, we can
then look at ways to help im-
prove and offer more to you.
Last year it cost around
£1000 to keep the BPA up
and running this cover meeting, vis-
its, phone calls and stationary along
with the websites we host.
The Committee has looked into the
benefits by introducing the BPA
paranormal licence/membership ID
card, not only will this show that we
are here to make a stand by us all
working together, The licence also
show that you are credited profes-
sional.
There are many groups and venues
out there who act and have a reputa-
tion of being unprofessional.
Joining the BPA allows you not only
be a part of an association which will
support you, but will also work with
you or on your behalf to obtain dis-
counts, member's nights out as well
as information services.
The main thing is it shows that you,
your group and venues are dedicated
to bringing honesty and profession-
alism back to the paranormal.
Club or Group Paranormal Li-
cence £30
If you are a team or group that are
looking to register to obtain the
discounts and offers within the BPA
then this is the best suited package
for your team.
The ID Licence will show that your
team or group are credited and cer-
tified By the British Paranormal
Association, therefore by holding
this you are making a change in
how we are all seen and regarded,
the benefit of this speaks for itself.
Who can apply for this?
All we ask that only the Founder of
you team or Group applies for the
licence whereby this will then cover
their team.

Blackfriars Group Paranormal Insurance
V o l u m e 1 , I s s u e 1
The BPA is pleased to an-
nounce an new paranormal
insurance deal with Blackfriars
Group.
The policy is fully inclusive, and
costs from £105 pounds a year
for accredited BPA members,
for 1 million to 10 million
pound claims.
The saving of this insurance
policy alone will be double your
membership fees for the BPA,
and vastly cheaper than your
current policy, so there really is
no reason not to sign up
The BPA are encouraging all
members to renew
with Blackfriars
Group as is it both
beneficial to your-
selves the groups,
the BPA and the
paranormal com-
munity.
Note : this deal is not open to
non members of the UKBPA
and the Blackfriars Group will
contact us regarding EVERY
claim that is made to make sure
the groups applying are Accred-
ited BPA members.
On top of all of this, we need
to achieve registered charity
status, for which we need an
income of above 5k per year,
something we currently
aren't achieving.
Of course with all this comes
the ability to be able to
achieve more of our aims as
well, because it will give us
greater capability and also
expenses with which to run.
Also further to this the pro-
jects team are continuing
with the MySpace and face-
book campaigns, as this at
the moment is where most
of our members are coming
from. Social networking
sites are the ideal medium
to get news about the UK-
BPA across to a wide audi-
ence, due to their nature. So
it was decided that this
would be the way forward
with regards to spreading
our message.
so fingers crossed then, lets
hope we can manage to se-
cure some funding so we can
move forward and take an-
other positive step to getting
things in order!
Any enquiries, email me

Tam Kinnear-Swift
Grant funding is an impor-
tant and crucial way of sup-
porting an organisation like
the UKBPA.
We have applied to HBOS
for a donation of up to 500k
as well as contacted Busi-
ness South East and LEGI
with regards to other grants.
Why do we need this you
ask? well, in the grand
scheme of things, the BPA is
moving forward, and we
need to be seen as a prop-
erly structured organisation
as opposed to existing only
in cyberspace. To this end,
we need an office, perma-
nent address where we can
base the UKBPA and run it
from.
Hopefully a grant will pro-
vide the necessary funds to
do this, so we can structure
ourselves properly.

St Mary’s Abbey Ru-

Featured Investigation — Phenomena Beyond
Belief At St. Mary’s Abbey, Suffolk
Infamous
for stories
of black
shuck,
monks and
other sight-
ings St.
Mary’s Ab-
bey in Bun-
gay, has to
be one of
the most unusual places
I have ever investigated.
We started as usual, by
tuning in to the environ-
ment, and doing a EMF
baseline check, as
churches are notorious
for giving off strange
EMF reading, only to
find out that it’s the elec-
trics to the church caus-
ing them!
We started filming and
calling out in the far end
of the old abbey ruins,
which butts up to the
wall of the present day
church,. The
first thing
we noticed,
was that
running all
the way
around the
old abbey
ruins, about
6 to 7 feet
above the
ground was
a high EMF
reading. This continued
even through the spaces
where the windows
were. With this in mind
we started calling out
and recorded the ses-
sion, both with a NV
camera and a sound re-
corder. At the same
point, I noticed when-
ever a picture was taken,
the flash was reflecting
off the dampness in the
air, which served to be a
problem, as it instantly
discounts any pictures
we may capture with
what appears to be orbs
in them.
Bex, the resident sensi-
tive, was feeling uneasy
and noted there was a
mans presence nearby,
noting that he also did-
n't like the fact there
were women in the ab-
bey ruins.
We moved round to the
far side, where the new
church looks onto the
abbey ruins form the
side, where there was a
huge EMF surge center-
ing around Bex, this
then curiously stopped
dead and all of a sudden
centered around Tam,
our guest for the night
from RIPS. At this
point, Bex felt really un-
easy and said that she
had just been sworn at
by the man who was
around her earlier… he
was becoming increas-
ingly abusive towards
the ladies it appeared
and was calling them
unrepeatable things. At
this point, Steve and
Tam then both picked
up the curios EMF read-
ing that was again 6 to 7
foot from the floor, the
strange thing this time
was that we were not
within 10 feet of any sort
of building, Tam fol-
lowed the EMF reading,
walking along the length
of the reading until it
stopped on the other
side of the graveyard. It
was running at 90 de-
grees now to the one
that was picked up run-
ning along the walls of
the old abbey… with this
in mind, Steve then fol-
lowed exactly the same
course, confirming it
was not Tam’s Gauss
meter doing odd things.
At this point Bex had
started questioning the
man that was becoming
increasingly abusive and
had come up with the
name “Jediah “ or
“Jebediah Wallace” she
had the feeling he had
murdered someone
(possibly a woman) in
the graveyard and gotten
away with it, as she said
he was extremely abu-
sive, cocky and didn't
much like women. A
quick search of the
gravestones revealed no
grave with that name on,
and it was at this point
Bex came up with the
year 1753.
The exact relevance to
this name and date we
couldn't ascertain, all we
found out on a later
search of the archives
was that a Jediah Wal-
lace was a shipbuilder
and started his appren-
ticeship in 1735 and had
been a ship builder..

Continued from over-
leaf
20 years at the time of the
survey we were reading.
However, further to this
there was no link to tie him
to Bungay, and as far as i am
aware, Bungay is not best
known for its shipbuilding.
We then split up into teams,
consisting of Bex and Tam,
Steve and Wendy, Ali and
sue, who all went off and
photographed various dif-
ferent things, recorded and
called out , Bex and Tam,
walked over to the other
side of the graveyard, whilst
following the very strange
EMF reading.
It was here that they were
confronted by Jediah Wal-
lace, who was stood about 4
feet to the left of Tam
threatening to “stab” him
and “tear his guts out if he
gets closer” Tam being Tam,
took 2 paces forward to-
wards the direction of where
Bex said Jediah was stand-
ing, but nothing physical
happened.
Conclusion—With regards
to the photo’s its hard to
conclude anything because
it was obviously damp and
misty, which Tam noticed
the flash was reflecting off,
because of this, sadly, we
have to discount anything
we see on the photo’s.
The EMF reading, 6 to 7 feet
from the ground were very
strange indeed, no reading
was measured on ground
level at the exact same
point, just 6 to 7 feet off the
ground. The pattern of the
readings, followed perpen-
dicular lines, intersecting
where the abbey walls lined
up with the old door. I have
to say, i, nor anyone else has
ever seen anything like this
before or since.

At the moment I am
working on getting all
accredited UKBPA
members, a discount off
certain sites that sell
investigation tools etc,
also other sites that sell
items for our mediums
such as tarot, pendu-
lums and crystals etc.
I have already obtained
a 10% discount from one
site but once member-
ship is up and running
properly I shall release
more info on this.
I have also been contact-
ing venues, to see if they
would give accredited
members discounts on
entry to their venues, as
we know that some
places can be quite
pricey, and discounts
would give more groups
better access to venues.
We have had a few ven-
ues come in offering dis-
counts, but I am still
waiting to hear form
most of them and will
keep you updated as I do
via the forum.
More details about the
sites which are available
at discount prices for
our members can be ob-
tained on the UKBPA
website.
Can I also add that peo-
ple are still joining up
with group initials but
are not adding their
website address to their
profile, also some
groups are adding to
their own websites that
they are members of the
UKBPA when they are
still only website mem-

This month we are covering
a paranormal team known
as Rotherham Investigative
Paranormal society.
Can you tell us about your selves?
We were formed in late 2008, it started off we were just going out an investigat-ing just for fun, then I got a few bits of kit, and someone said, ‘why not do it prop-erly?’ and I was like, ‘why not?!’ and that was how RIPS came about.
So are you new to the paranormal reams?
Well apart form the investi-gations we have done, we are all fairly new to the paranormal realms. That being said, we have a couple of very experienced sensi-tive's and I’m fairly experi-enced and knowledgeable about most things to do with kit and investigations through my work with the UKBPA. In an environment like that, where your con-stantly surrounded by other individuals and groups, and people who have tremen-dous experience of that thing, its very hard not to soak up the information like a sponge, so at any given moment on an investigation, if someone gets a wee bit stuck, there’s usually some-thing someone has said or done pops into my head to help with that.
Can you tell us about the tools you use when out?
Our kit is fairly standardized throughout the industry really, I don't think we use anything specifically that anyone else doesn't…. We generally take out a Gauss meter, a digital and laser thermometer, a Kodak z7590 camera and a few
other digi cams too, a sound recorder for EVP’s, the worlds supply of batteries and peripherals, trigger ob-jects, which usually depend on the environment and location as to what they are, for example, if we were in somewhere like a monastery or abbey, we would take a cross, if we were somewhere where children had been seen, we would take marbles or a Childs toy.
So are you open minded or believers
Personally, I’m about a psy-chic as a cheese sandwich. I tend not to experience or notice those kind of things, as I’m usually too focused on being scientific. I’m a skeptic, my mission is that I’m trying to prove that ghosts, spirits etc DON’T exist, but I always tend to err on the scientific side of things, always looking for a rational explanation etc, but our two sensitive’s are be-lievers, and the rest of the team are open minded skep-tics, so there is a good bal-ance there.
So what Sort of things have you been up to?
In January, we investigated a couple of locations with a group called Paranormal Beyond Belief, from Great Yarmouth, in Norfolk, which was a good experience. I find its always a good thing to work with other groups, as they may use methods that perhaps you don't, and vice-a-versa, its always a good learning experience, as well as forging a good rela-tionship with another group, because lets face it, were all here to do the same job and learn from each other.
Have you have any ex-periences?
Well, I can honestly say I have never seen or experi-
enced anything on an investiga-tion that scared me or I could positively identify as being para-normal, however, my skepticism has been tested on more than one occasion when reviewing the evi-dence… a good indicator for me is when the hairs on my arm stand up and my eyes start watering, which has happened to me on more than one occasion when re-viewing EVP’s I can tell you! Oth-ers in the group have had some funny old experiences though, at one investigation, we were doing some calling out, and one of the sensitive’s asked me to come stand with her and take some pictures as she felt slightly uneasy, when the very first picture was reviewed, there was a hoofing great orb right by her, and on the EVP that was being recorded at the time was a voice saying ‘Help me, help me, HELP… HELP ME PLEASE’ which I have to say, still makes my eyes water now listening to it!
What’s next for the team?
Well, at the mo-ment, we don't have any investiga-tions planned, as a few of our mem-bers are quite ill and as I don't drive, we have transport issues! Were looking at tak-ing on other mem-bers from the South Yorkshire area as we are looking to expand our team, anyone with an interest in the paranormal is welcome to contact us if they want to be a part of RIPS.
Any last words?
Yes, never clean your windows with soft boiled eggs…!

The Stocksbridge bypass ,
just outside of Sheffield, was
built in the early 80's .
Since building commenced,
various reports were made
that a spirit had been dis-
turbed and was frequently
seen in the evenings by secu-
rity guards and even 2 police-
men who investigated it.
In the early 80’s, when the
bypass was being built and
after several reports by secu-
rity guards to the local police
of disturbances at night, two
officers went to investigate
early one morning.
At first nothing happened,
then a figured appeared on
the bridge, which at this time
was still under construction
and closed to the public, get-
ting out to check, one of the
officers noticed it vanish into
thin air.
Within minutes of climbing
back into the car, the driver
was startled to see someone
appear “as if out of thin air”
by the drivers side of the car,
the passenger also saw this
and noticed when
the figure disap-
peared, he appeared
suddenly at the pas-
senger side, before
disappearing again.
Then, banging
started on the back
of the car, but by
now, both officers
were reluctant to get out to
investigate.
The sightings have com-
menced to this day, with the
spirit being blamed for many
accidents along the bypass
A ghost of a monk is said to
walk along the bridge, as well
as actually sit IN cars driving
along the bypass. a musty
smell has often been associ-
ated with this monk, more so
in the cases of the monk ac-
companying passengers in
their cars.
it is THIS which has been
blamed for the many acci-
dents which have frequently
occurred on the bypass.
A recent video on you-
tube.com has an image of a
brown cloaked figure stand-
ing on the Pearoyd bridge
whilst the car from which it
was shot passes by, much to
the onlookers shock.
A boy is said also to walk
along the bridge, although his
sighting are less frequent, as
his appearances are said to be
a premonition/forewarning
of an accident on the road.
A man in Victorian clothes
has also been reported
around the bridge area, al-
though the specific location
to his appearances cannot
be determined.
The pylon is said so be
haunted by children singing
"ring a ring a roses" around
it. it has often been re-
ported, and upon investiga-
tion, the children vanish and
no evidence of footprints etc
been found. they have also
been heard without being
seen, and seen without be-
ing heard.
The history of this sighting
appears to date back to the
time when children, and
indeed entire families were
used in the mines, and this
specific occurrence relating
to an incident of a mine, not
to far from the Pearoyd py-
lon collaps-
ing and
sadly killing
all who were
below at the
time. The
children are
said to be
the spirits of
the pit chil-
dren who
died in the
mine accident so
many years ago.
Various local Para-
normal groups have
investigated it to this day,
but results remain inconclu-
sive due to the place being
notoriously windy, and in-
ability to use many of the
gadgets that investigators
use as standard because of
the EMF emitted by the py-
lons nearby.

Coleby Grange, is an aban-
doned airfield, that is now
mostly being used for the
Boothby heath Farm, just
outside Metherington, Lin-
colnshire. It first opened in
1939 and closed for the final
time in 1963.
The ghost of an airmen in
WW2 flying kit has been
seen in and around the con-
trol tower, stones have been
thrown, a feeling of pres-
ence and not being alone
has also been noted and a
shadowy figure moves on
both levels of the control
tower.
The staircase is also report-
edly haunted, a young air-
man fell down them and
died of a fractured skull, and
since, many people have
reported painful headaches
whist on it. At other times,
the drone of long gone
bombers can be heard, and
footsteps heard on the top
corridor.
RAF Coleby Grange is just
outside of Metherington,
Lincolnshire and can be
found just off the B1202.

Roche Abbey is a now-ruined
abbey located just outside
Rotherham, near Maltby,
South Yorkshire.
It is situated in a valley
alongside Maltby Beck and
King's Wood.
There is a small parking area
just off the main road and
from here it is a short trek
down a roughly cobbled,
winding lane that eventually
leads to the valley floor.
The abbey was founded in
1147 when the stone build-
ings were raised on the north
side of the beck. From the
start, the Abbey of Roche,
built for the so-called White
Monks, as the Cistercians
were known, had an almost
otherworldly air.
It was, after all, built at the
northern end of an area once
covered by Sherwood Forest,
and it was said that Robin
Hood went to Mass here, and
a medievally clothed figure
has been spotted in the trees
kneeling as if in prayer on
many an occasions, could
this be the spirit of one of
England’s greatest heroes?
Although not much remains,
the ruins are dominated by
the church which dates from
around 1180, the other build-
ings are visible only by their
foundation walls. Maltby
Beck runs through the abbey
grounds and is crossed in
several places by the build-
ings of the cloister.
sightings mostly pertain to
monks moving throughout
the grounds, and in 2008,
when local group Project re-
veal looked about the place
prior to an investigation, the
photo’s they took turned up
more than they bargained
for.
In one of the photos, taken
up by the gate house, a figure
of a monk appeared.
“this wasn’t an investigation”
said Project Reveal “we had
just gone down to look at the
place PRIOR to investigating
it later that week”
Other local teams have also
had photographs of monks,
as recently as December
2008, when Rotherham In-
vestigative Paranormal soci-
ety captured what appears to
be a half formed apparition of
a praying monk.
“It was captured in front of
the ruined church, where
there appears to be a hooded
figure crouching as if in
prayer.”
however there have also been
many sightings of other
ghost, including the spectre
of a grey lady standing at one
of the windows, staring out
onto the grounds.
Nobody is sure who the mys-
terious grey lady is, or why
she haunts what is now the
National Trust building at
the abbey, but it is thought
that she was at one time the
governess for the Wickersley
family, who had taken pos-
session of the land after the
dissolution of the monaster-
ies by Henry IIIV.
The sound of a wailing child
is said to be heard coming
from one of the upper
rooms, although on investi-
gation the crying stops and
the room is empty.
Certain guests are also said
to have seen the ghost of a
maid disappearing up a
flight of stairs. Legend has it
that in the 18th century, a
maidservant to the Wicker-
sley family, had found her-
self pregnant to a local sol-
dier who was then killed in
battle, and shortly after her
child was born, she killed
the baby before hanging
herself in the attic.
There are no records as to
who, if this story
is true she was, or
why she decided
to hang herself
and murder her
child.
The feel of Roche
abbey often
changes, and
sometimes
changes quite rap-
idly, going from calm and
pleasant to overbearing and
oppressive in a matter of
second, and usually, without
explanation.
