Different Types of Symbiosis
Parasitism…A symbiotic
association in which one organism
benefits and the other is harmed.
Mutualism...A symbiotic
relationship in which both organisms
benefit.
Commensalism…
A symbiotic relationship in
which one organism benefits
and the other is unaffected.

Example of Mutualism
One example of mutualism is an ant, a butterfly caterpillar, and an acacia. The acacia feeds the butterfly caterpillar. The butterfly caterpillar has nectar organs that the ant eats from. The acacia gets protection from the ant.

Example of Commensalism
One example of commensalism is a whale and barnacle. The barnacle gets on the whale and gets to ride on it as the whale swims. The whale is unaffected.

Example of Parasitism
One example of parasitism is a dog and flea. The dog gets bit by the flea and the flea gets blood.
