☺ Sunscreen provides protection against the

damaging effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun by reducing the amount of UV rays reaching the skin.

☺ Sunscreen does not provide 100% protection

against UV radiation.

☺ Sunscreen should always be used in

conjunction with other sun protection measures such as spending less time in the sun when UV radiation is highest, seeking shade, and wearing protective clothing and hats.

☺ The Cancer Council NT recommends using

broadspectrum, water-resistant sunscreen and reapplying at least every two hours.

Medical Help at School: First Aid: sickness and accidents

Our front office staff have current St John Senior First Aid and give first aid when required at school. In some instances it will be necessary to contact parents to take the child home. In the interest of the school community, it is requested that sick children be kept at home. Should a serious accident occur, parents are notified and the child may be taken to Emergency at the Royal Darwin Hospital.

Ambulance transport: school excursions/playground injury

If it is necessary to use the ambulance services, parents will be contacted and the service is free for enrolled students.

Medicine

Parents may, where necessary, send medication to school. All medication must be left at the front office where an office assistant will administer it at the appropriate time. It is essential that written instructions accompany any medication to be taken at school. These form are available at the Front Office.

Parents are requested to keep ill or infectious children at home to prevent a re-occurrence and to minimise the risk of infecting other children and members of staff. Please refer to the school for infectious disease exclusion times.

Last week six of the parents and staff who attended the School Council planning session met to continue the good

work. They agreed that Council should be less involved in the operational business of the School and more involved in

setting its strategic directions.

The group will therefore focus on:

♦ Increasing effective communication between parents and staff and

♦ Setting directions for the School for the next few years.

They will develop a clear vision (the staff have already given this some thought) and put the work from the planning

session into the Department of Education’s Key Result Areas framework. This will be ready for the Council’s first

meeting in 2010.

If you would like to know more about this or have a comment or idea to put in please give me a call via the School or

send an email to [email protected]

The Wanguri Primary School Council Environment and Planning Committee organized a planting and grounds maintenance morning on 14 November. A mountain of mulch was spread (thanks

heaps to Rusty and Bruce for the Kanga and the donation of mulch).

With Jenny Robinson's help a number of trees were planted to continue to beautify and shade the school grounds. We also did some tidying in the bio garden. Thomas Dalton-Lum fixed the

pond pump and we admired the marbled frogs' eggs in two of the ponds.

The group did an amazing amount in a couple of hours.
