1. Hastings Secondary College blended learning model

1.1 Hastings Secondary College has now moved to a blended model of education

delivery to ensure continuity of education for all our students.

1.1 Student Timetables

From Monday, Week 3, Term 2, students will follow their normal subject timetable for each day which

students are scheduled to attend school however rooming will be different.

The senior students will attend normal timetabled lessons in their normal rooms where possible.

1.2 Cross Campus

Cross-campus classes and transport will run as per normal. Senior PC is to be conducted by the period 1 class

teachers before dismissing students to move to their next class at the start of period 2. Please use this time

for general wellbeing support. (see Section 11).

1.3 Senior Flexible Attendance

Senior students have flexible attendance regarding later starts and earlier finish times. Seniors are permitted

to attend school 5 minutes before their first timetabled lesson to sign in at the front office.

1.5 Wellbeing

Wellbeing will function as normal. Students who have time out cards can use them by following the regular procedures. Students who wish to access members of the wellbeing team for learning or wellbeing support can self-refer. They can do this by presenting to Wellbeing and asking for help and it is preferable that these requests occur during lunch times, however, if needed students can seek permission from their supervising teacher to access Wellbeing. Students will need to have a note from their teacher if they come to Wellbeing during class time. Breakfast Club is available.

1.6 Canteen

Port Macquarie Campus Canteen will be operational from Week 3.

2. Lesson Structure 2.1 Years 7-10

Junior students will follow their timetabled lessons for their scheduled day. Students will complete the same

unit of work which has been prepared for learning at home. Teachers will not be creating separate units of

work for face to face delivery.

Students will stay in these rooms for all class based activities for that day, completing remote learning

material only.

It is very possible that students will not see their regular classroom teacher for the timetabled lessons.

2.2 Year 7-10 Practical Lessons

Students in Years 7-10 will not be participating in any practical lessons, this includes all subjects and

electives.

2.3 Lesson Equipment

Students are encouraged to bring their charged personal device for online learning. If a student does not

have a device, they must bring their physical work package along with books, stationery etc. required for that

subject.

Limited devices will be available for loan on any given day.

3. Years 11 and 12 3.1 Year 11 and 12 Timetables

Year 12 students will be following their normal timetables, including period cross campus.

3.2 Year 12 Practical Lessons

Year 12 students will be participating in practical lessons, particularly subjects involving major works.

Faculties can decide to swap from theory to practical lessons within a timetabled lesson.

3.3 Year 12 Assessment Schedules

All HSC students will be provided with an updated assessment schedule.

3.4 Year 12 Assessment Tasks

Notifications for assessment schedules will begin to be distributed to students from Week 4. Therefore,

assessment tasks will resume from Week 6 for HSC students.

The latest week for submission of Year 12 assessment tasks is Week 7 of Term 3. Marks are due to NESA by

Week 9, Term 3.

3.5 Year 12 HSC Trials

HSC Trial Examinations will be held in Term Three- Weeks 5 and 6.

3.6 HSC Major Projects

HSC Major projects will now be marked by classroom teachers as per NESA Advice. Year 12 students can

approach faculties to work on major projects during study periods.

3.7 HSC Minimum Standards Testing

Minimum Standards Testing will continue to occur on site.

3.8 Disability Provisions

The Learning and Support Teacher Coordinator will continue to lead the LAST Team regarding the

organisation and implementation of Disability Provisions for HSC students.

4. Study Periods 4.1 Year 11 and 12 Study Periods

5. Equipment 5.1 Devices

Students are encouraged to bring their equipment including devices. For students who do not have devices,

they will be required to bring their own stationery including books, pens and work packages.

Limited devices will be available for distribution on a daily basis.

If a student in Year 11 and 12 requires a loan device, please contact our TSO Andrew Dun. Supplies are

limited.

6. Students not scheduled to be in school and who are learning from home 6.1 The student’s timetable does not dictate when they should be completing the set work. Whereas some

may wish to use their school timetable as a guide, students should manage their own learning times to

suit their individual and family, circumstances and commitments.

6.2 Teachers may be ‘online’ in the google classroom platform during their normal timetabled class period.

Staff have scheduled lessons with their students during one of these times. This means teachers will be

available during the scheduled time and ready to respond to messages and questions asked in the class

chat forum.

6.3 Teachers can be contacted at other times using the google classroom messaging system. Due to teacher

commitments (other classes, meetings etc.), an immediate response may not be possible, however

teachers will endeavour to respond by the student’s next timetabled lesson.

6.4 We are not expecting students to sit at their computers from 8.15 to 2.15 each day and work through

each subject as per their timetable. We do however require students to complete any work set by the

due date. A learning task submission is expected from students at least once a week.

6.5 There is no expectation that the number of hours spent on learning are consecutive hours or that the

time spent on particular subjects is fixed to existing timetabling regimes.

6.6 Regular breaks and physical activity are important during each day.

6.7 Any online face-to-face classes (video conferences) will be scheduled in timetabled lesson times.

6.8 Students have access to both Office 365 and G Suite for Education through the Student Portal.

1. Work Packages Some students have limited access to technology so their teachers have developed learning materials

available for pick up in the administration block at school. When students collect the pakages this will be

communicated to their teachers.

2. What to expect from the Student

2.1 Students are to partake in the learning experiences provided by their teachers.

2.2 If possible, students should access their subjects in Google Classroom. Other online

platforms (ZOOM, Teams etc.) may be used depending on individual subject

requirements.

2.3 Students should submit all learning tasks by the published due dates.

2.4 Students need to communicate with their teachers if they are having difficulty with

either their learning, or in the meeting of deadlines.

3. Wellbeing

3.1 Student wellbeing is of paramount importance. Students can request Wellbeing Support through the campus

Wellbeing support team

4. Communication

4.1 The school posts daily updates on the school webpage and Facebook account.

4.2 Google classroom and email will be the primary communication between students and teachers

4.3 Email communication can be used for families to contact the School or an individual teacher.

4.4 All staff are working to provide quality learning for each student and to ensure all students are being cared

for and supported.

4.5 Please note that not all staff will be on site every day.

5. Online Learning Etiquette

7.1 The classroom has transformed in style and format, but not in expectations and personal conduct. While the

nature of our communication has changed; the manner in which we interact must still be respectful and

embrace learning.

Students are expected to:

be courteous, polite and formal in tone

not use any inappropriate or offensive language

communicate in the same way as if sitting in the class room.

7.2 When using Video Conferencing with the classroom teacher students are expected to:

use these mediums only during advertised class times

use the mute button unless directed otherwise

present yourself and your learning space appropriately (be conscious of your backdrop/background)

communicate in the same way that you would in a classroom.

7.3 Respectful dress, appropriate learning spaces and courtesy are essential features of Online Learning.

6. Parent Responsibility

6.1 Students' safe, responsible and respectful use of digital devices and online services is the shared

responsibility of students, parents, carers and school staff

6.2 Parents and carers recognise the role they play in educating their children and modelling the behaviours that

underpin the safe, responsible and respectful use of digital devices and online services

6.3 Parents and carers support implementation of the school procedure, including its approach to resolving

issues

6.4 Parents and carers take responsibility for their child's use of digital devices and online services at home. They

ensure their children use digital devices and online services in safe, responsible and respectful ways, as

described in the School Procedures and the Behaviour Code for Students.

6.5 Parents and carers communicate with school staff and the school community respectfully and collaboratively
