Advent Calendar Donations to
As part of our fantastic House System, each year, we always look to support a local
charity. This year, we are collecting Advent Calendars, for the King’s Lynn Foodbank, who distribute them in combination, with the food packages, as a little extra treat.
We feel this is a really kind and caring thing to promote and are aiming to collect in

Wild Melanie 7D GOOD NEWS Year 7s attended a remembrance assembly on Monday, this was a proud moment for me as Year Head seeing all 230 students all show the respect that the 2 minutes silence deserves. Hearing the story from the 6th formers about students from this school fighting in WW1 at the tender age of 16 was impressive. It’s easy to forget the importance of community, but showing us all their bravery during that war, brought us together. On Monday our year 7 football team played in the national cup, unfortunately losing 1-0. Mom was Alfie Winter. During the last few weeks I have spoken to many students about their attitude in lessons. For me it is fundamental that students are in lesson all the time, this will enhance their progress in that lesson. Unfortunately, some students have or are getting removed from subjects, this not only effects that student but the whole class during the removal. I have now put in place a workshop on Wednesday lunchtime for a few of these students for them to help “regulate their emotions” in difficult situations. Finally, with regard to setting. Students are currently set on KS2 data (SATS Scores). We have completed one assessment since year 7 and them joining the academy. They will have another assessment this term. From this information Mr Robinson and I will look at whether students need to move sets. We feel this is the best way at utilising the data and having the best effect on the student. One date for the diary is Year 7 Parents Evening- Thursday 12th December, the appointment system should go live within next few weeks and you will receive a text and an email from us via parentmail. GOOD NEWS
On Monday period 1 was extended by ten minutes so that Year 8 pupils could take part in the two minute
memorial silence. From reports that I have been getting from the subject teachers the year 8’s did this with
maturity and respect for the people of the armed forces.
This week I was able to attend two subject lessons to look observe the lesson and to look through the
books of the pupils. I have to say that there was not one pupil that let themselves down and I have been
impressed by a number of pupils and the amazing work that they had produced in their exercise books. In
particular Kinza Azam, Wiktor Wojdyna and Oliver Shipp.
Yesterday I had an unusual request from a parent they had asked for their son to collect all of his subject
books and to take them home. This would mean they can have the opportunity to go through their books
and see if their son is working as hard as they should. It gives them an informed overview to how their
child is performing. As they are very pro-active they would then speak to them where necessary about
their work ethic in certain subjects. When she mentioned this I thought how wonderful. You see your
child’s education is a partnership between your child, the teacher and you the parent. I know myself sometimes as a teacher I wish I could have more time to help pupils one to one to gauge how much they
understand and know. If you ever wanted to do this please email the subject teachers and I am sure they
would allow the exercise books to be taken home, provided the books can be returned for their next
lesson.
Please can I remind parents that if your child has been off school upon their return they must give Miss
Dixon their absence letter.
STUDY TIP OF THE WEEK
Modern technology is an amazing thing we can now access information with a simple click on the internet.
Sometimes I think it can also be a little sad. We have a library and one day in the near future I suspect that
books will be replaced by tablet computers through use of ebooks. I think it is important that sometime this
week if your child has not booked out a book of their choice from the library then they must do so.
Because one day a text book will be something found in a museum.

STUDY TIP OF THE WEEK
Teach someone else
As a teacher I had to know my subject better than ever before in my life. You can’t teach something, and particularly you can’t answer questions about it, unless you know and understand it inside and out. So, when you’ve finished learning some content find someone to teach it to. If you can’t get them to understand then you don’t understand or know it well enough yourself yet.

NEWS Students are now coming to the end of the two week mock period, although many still have practical exams to come. On the whole, the year group have conducted themselves well and have learned some valuable lessons about the exam process. Results will be given out in a special results assembly in order to replicate the experience of receiving their results in the Summer. School uniform has become an issue during the exam period. Please can parents ensure that as of Monday, uniform is correct. Any students not in full school uniform and not in an exam will be isolated until uniform is corrected. At this point of their school career students cannot afford to be out of lessons!
UPCOMING EVENTS
We will be logging on to the ‘You Choose website shortly and letting students make their 6th form and college applications. Now is a good time to be talking to your child for next steps after year 11. They will be receiving another talk about 6th form and college to help them with this process.
STUDY TIP OF THE WEEK
Think about the mocks as the start of the journey, not the end of one. Now mocks are finishing, how will you build on what you have learned to do even better in the summer?

Advance notice that the Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday 5th December in the main
school hall. Funds raised from this will be divided between the Kings Lynn Community Foodbank and
the sixth form prom fund. If your child is interested in performing in this event, either musically or with
another special performing talent (e.g. dance, comedy, public speaking etc), please ask them to see either
Mrs Nicholls or Mr Walmsley in the music department as soon as possible this week so we can organise
rehearsals and the running order for the evening.
