Parentview: We would like to advise you that you are able to give your views on the Academy to Ofsted via their parentview questionnaire, at any time – not just during inspections. We value your opinion and would encourage you to do this at:

www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk

Attendance: Welcome back to 2020. During the last week before Christmas break we had our rewards assemblies. We had over 390 students with 95% attendance and above. Out of those 150 students had 100% attendance. I was delighted to award the following students with the 100% attendance mug and chocolates for this term. These students’ names have been picked at random during the assemblies. Year 7 Blazej Kozikowski Year 8 Kaitlin Baxter Year 9 Keighley Graver Year 10 William Histon Year 11 Ellie Gaskins During November I ran a competition for the best attendance poster or poem. Thank you to all the students who entered. 1st place, winning a week of early lunch passes, with a friend was Kaitlin Baxter with her very colourful poster. 2nd place was Harrison Bowden with his amazing poem. He had an early lunch pass, also with a friend. All posters are now on display outside my office. Whole school attendance at present is 94%.

YEAR 7 95% YEAR 8 95% YEAR 9 93% YEAR 10 92% YEAR 11 94%

Please remember to contact me on 01553 779635 OR email me [email protected] if your child is going to be absent or late to school. If no contact is made you may receive a text message informing you that your child has not registered for school. Please remember to call every day your child is absent as we cannot assume that they are still unfit for school. Please remember to keep medical appointments outside school hours where possible.

School Transport: We have received notification of a road closure in Blackborough End that will affect school bus KLA1. The works are scheduled for 20th January 2020 for 3 days. The students who normally board at the stop on School Lane will need to walk to the bus stop on the Lynn Road, near the pub, and the bus will collect them from there.

Library: We have an amazing front book display that is filled with new books for students to borrow. The selection is wide ranging and cross curriculum. The new books include – The One and Only Ivan by K. Applegate The Muse by J. Burton The Time Travellers Guide to Medieval England by I. Mortimer Six Easy Pieces by R. P. Feynman

We encourage all of our students to read for pleasure because it does improve literacy. All students have the opportunity to visit the library to borrow and return books. Unfortunately many hang on to books when they have finished with them and really do need prompting to find and return their books! We would appreciate your support in reminding your child to return their library books as the more popular books do get requested by other students. Please note we do not charge fines for overdue library books, however if the book is lost or damaged we hope that parents will be supportive and replace the book. A good quality, second-hand book would be an acceptable replacement and may be purchased at a charity shop at very little cost.

KLA Community Christmas Lunch: As you are aware on Saturday 21st December 2019 we hosted our second Christmas meal for the community. Our 97 visitors received sherry or juice on arrival & a two course meal, followed by mince pies, teas & coffees. A massive thanks goes out to all the catering staff, students, support staff, teaching staff, site team, cleaners & admin staff for all of their efforts not just on the day but leading up to the preparation. The meal was a success sending them all off with a gift & over 50 free raffle prizes. Quite a few of our guests were former students so this was an added bonus with them sharing their stories with us all. Mrs Culley-Tea welcomed the guests by singing some classic Christmas tunes & many thanks to her Donations came from staff, students, Cook's Butchers, Hopwells, Brook St, Barsby's and Dan Robinson - a massive thanks goes to each and every one of you. Here's to 2020!! Mrs H Lockey

Year 7 Round Up – Compiled by Mrs Germaney: Welcome back and Happy New Year to you all!!

As it is a new year I wanted to remind you all of some of our expectations. Students are not permitted to have nail extensions, nail polish or nail art. Our uniform policy allows for black trousers only, no leggings, jeggings, jeans or chinos, of course black skirts are also permitted.

If your child/children are not feeling well at school and contact you at home please advise them to come and see me. I will always see if we can make them feel better, I may phone you to see if they can have pain relief for example. If a student genuinely needs to come home I will make contact with you to arrange this. It is very difficult when parents arrive to take their child home and I have no knowledge they were even feeling ill. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Our rewards assembly was full of energy at the end of last term. All of the students in Yr.7 were exceptionally well behaved and enjoyed the celebrations. Congratulations to all of the students that were nominated for blazer badges and highly commended certificates. We ended the assembly with a fun video of staff lip syncing to a well know Christmas song which went down a storm. Thank you all staff that were involved in the filming and a special thank you to Miss Crowe (HOY 9) for editing the video for us.

Below is a list of the students and their nominations, well done to you all.

Year 11 Round Up – Compiled by Miss McGivern:

Our whole school theme this week is Finding my Voice.

Welcome back everyone, a new year and a new decade. I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas and New Year period.

This is an important time for the Yr. 11’s with the next set of mock exams coming up very soon and less than 5 months until the school journey is done.

Top achievement points this week goes to Caitlin Gaze 11JCR with 368 points.

Year 11 Student of the week nominations from form tutors are:

11MDO Macaulay Wedge A very calm and hardworking start to an important year.

11RES Lewis Kershaw Lewis is always positive and respectful, and a good role model to students across KLA.

11SBA Samanta Grinevic For excellent behaviour, punctuality and politeness every tutor time.

11JPE Faith Weatherington For an excellent start as the newest member of the form.

11DTO Tegan Shackcloth After having a successful first term of Year 11 where progress was made in key areas she has shown this week that the same focused attitude remains. It is great to see that her confidence is growing and the leadership demonstrated in the tutor group during the student voice session was pleasing. Make sure you keep up the hard work to ensure you are prepared for the challenges which are ahead.

11HCO Cameron Reed Showing good all round effort and progress. Over 200 achievement points in term.

Well done to all students that were nominated and congratulations to Tegan Shackcloth.

Below are the names of the students who received a nomination during our rewards assembly. It is so nice to have had most students in the year nominated for something. Well done Year 11’s.
