Cheshire East
Thanks to BBC Children in
Need we have been
delivering free family
activity events at Hebden
Green Community School
in Winsford over the
summer holidays. We will be delivering more at this venue and
have been commissioned by Cheshire East Council to deliver
some similar events in Cheshire East venues. Please see page 9
for details of some future events. At the events we have
volunteers who are on hand to support you and there is always a
friendly, supportive, and fun atmosphere
to help you and your family enjoy some
new activities. Feedback has been
really positive: “We had a great day,
friendly staff, inclusive free fun!”

The Children & Families Team
We hope you have had a nice summer, we know it can be a difficult time for some
families without the structure of school.
We are really pleased to confirm that Cheshire East Council are continuing to provide
funding to us to enable us to offer services for parent carers and their families in
Cheshire East. This funding will enable us to continue to deliver our monthly support
groups in Congleton, Crewe and Macclesfield. If you haven’t been to a group before, you
would be most welcome. The aim of the sessions are to provide parent carers with the
opportunity to meet other carers, sharing experiences and talking to others in a similar
situation can be really helpful. Volunteers are on hand to support you if you are feeling
anxious. We often enjoy an activity or invite speakers from local organisations who may
be able to help you. Please see page 10 for a list of groups.
We will also be delivering a Family Event in May 2018, further details will be in the next edition of this newsletter as well as some family events during school holidays. The funding enables us to continue to produce this newsletter which we hope you find helpful. We are still fundraising to further develop the service, and are happy to discuss feedback with you if you have attended a group or event or have any ideas about services we could deliver in the future, please don’ t hesitate to get in touch.
The Children & Families Team

Crewe all day on a Thursday treatments include massage, reiki and aromatherapy. Due
to popluar demand we do have to limit carers to a maximum of two treatments unless
we receive cancellations.

Update from Everybody Sport & Recreation
We are pleased to announce the details of our new
activities programme for people with a disability,
which we have renamed "Ability for All.”
We are introducing a number of new activities to our programme:
Activity hubs (Running at Macclesfield and Crewe leisure Centre):
A fortnightly multi-sport and play session consisting of a variety of activities,
including special themed events and quiet areas, to keep the participants
engaged.
There are opportunities for parents to join in with the activities or leave their
child while they use the gym, attend a fitness class or just enjoy a brew in our
Taste for Life Café.
At the end of each Activity Hub there is the opportunity for the family to join the
public swim for an hour.
Alpha Swim
A 12 week course of swimming lessons for young people with a disability.
The lessons are for complete beginners and will encourage children and young
people to have fun, be more relaxed in the water whilst learning basic water
skills in line with Swim England Award scheme.
Alpha Swim will run from Congleton Leisure Centre, Crewe Lifestyle Centre and
Macclesfield Leisure Centre.
Inclusive Gym Sessions
An inclusive session for 14-18 year olds with a designated qualified gym
instructor for support.
The sessions will beat a low ratio so disabled children will be supported to the
opportunity to develop confidence, skills and knowledge in the gym
environment whilst achieving their individual fitness goals.
The gym sessions will run at Crewe Lifestyle Centre and Macclesfield Leisure
Centre on a weekly basis.
The remainder of the programme will remain the same it was previously, such as
trampolining, inclusive cycling and the Cygnet Swim sessions. We have been able to
retain the Activ8 sessions at Playworld and Fun4all but they will now only run twice a
month in case of weekly.
For further details please visit our website http://everybody.org.uk/disability-sports/ for full
details on the programme and dates and times.
If you require any further information please contact us at [email protected].
This service has been commissioned by Cheshire East Council.

We are able to deliver free services to support carers and their families with thanks
to funding from Cheshire East Council and BBC Children in Need however it is
important that we continue to raise funds to enhance and develop our services to
meet the needs of local families. Our online buying and selling group “Items for
Sale Cheshire & Warrington Carers Trust” has helped to raise £223.73 since the
last edition of this newsletter. The group enables carers to pick up a bargain whilst
raising funds for us. You can advertise your own items and then donate the
proceeds or a percentage of the profits to us or drop your donations off at your
local office.
We have recently raised £ 233 from tombola’s at our own events and community
events. Thank you to everyone who has
helped by donating prizes or purchasing
tickets.
Would you do a tandem skydive for us?
We are looking for adventourous brave people who would be interested in doing a
tandem sky dive at Tilstock Airfield in Whitchurch. You can arrange to jump at a
date that is convenient for you, there is a minimum amount that you will need to
raise of £ 460.00 this covers all the costs of your jump and a donation to us,
anything above this amount would be fantastic! Perhaps you have this on your
bucket list or would like to set yourself a challenge and once in a lifetime
experience? You can use our online donation facility to help boost your
sponsorships and we will of course promote for you too. Please get in touch if you
are interested in finding out more. SUMMER GALA. This event held on 5th
August at De Vere Cranage Estate as well as providing a wonderful evening of
fun, dancing, food and glamour helped us to raise just over £3,000. Thank you to
all who attended this event. We are already busy planning something similar in
2018. If you work for a business who may be interested in sponsoring us please
get in touch. HELP NEEDED. We are always looking for items that we can use
at bingo events, tombola’s, and raffles. Please get in touch if you have any
unwanted items that you would like to donate.
SUPERMARKETS We are most grateful if you are able to nominate us at any
local supermarket for example Waitrose, or Asda. We have recently received a
donation of £200 simply from a carer nominating us. THANK YOU

It has been a busy few months for the Parent Carer Forum, and a bit of a juggle over the summer holidays, but now it is back to school and we are able to start planning for the year ahead. We are planning work shops and open forums, and working with our associates like CEIAS (Cheshire East Information Advice and Support) and Cheshire & Warrington Carers Trust. If you’d like to help plan and decide what our priorities should be, please get in touch about coming along to a steering group meeting to see what it’s all about – email [email protected] or call 07794431768 Our new officer team are settling in: Mandy Dickson & Chris Wee (our co-Chairs) have been to meet with
the SEND team at Cheshire East to talk through how we will continue to work together.
The Parent Representatives are continuing to work with the Local Authority to make sure parent carers’ views are taken into account, and co-producing the changes that are being implemented. If you’d like to find out more about representing parent carers please get in touch for a chat – you can email [email protected] or call 07794431768 As well as attending these meetings, we have also represented our members when things have gone
wrong. Recently some changes were made that affected short breaks, and we have been in contact with
Cheshire East and the service providers to challenge the changes and ask for explanations so we can
understand why changes were made and what provision is in place. Many members have also
experienced issues with Transport. Again, we were able to gather people’s experiences to demonstrate
the problems, and approach the local authority to ask them to investigate and work with us to make
improvements. Cheshire East are currently working on both these issues, and we will keep our members
updated.
We have also been working with Parent Carer Forums in other areas of the UK – it’s a great way to share
information and learn from each other about what works well (or not so well!)
The first batch of Max Cards have now run out – so if you have one, have a look at the back & check the date. If you need a new one please email us at [email protected] and we’ll send you the link to apply.
If you’re not yet a member of the forum & you’d like to join please go to www.surveymonkey.com/r/cepcfjoinus email [email protected] or call 07794431768 – you’ll get a free Max Card, and start receiving our updates with news and opportunities to get involved.
(Please remember that we are an independent group of parent carer volunteers We have only one paid
employee who is working as fast as she can, but only works part time – the rest of us are all volunteers,
so I’m sure you’ll understand if there’s a little delay….)
If you attend one of Cheshire & Warrington Carers Trust’s Parent Carer support groups, or coffee
mornings you will be able to join the Forum or find out more there. (See page 10)

extend to the park’s Accessibility Guide, available online and from the Resort Box Office. It now includes the ‘Something Special Sensory Garden’, designed to help children develop their language.
