Parent Evening

Tonight’s event will be a snapshot of the key information for parents and students of the Sacred Heart College Community. At the end of this session there will be an opportunity for you to ask specific questions about the day-to-day running of Year 9 and any particular questions you may have for staff.

Staff at Sacred Heart College Middle School:

● Typically, your son will have two or more teachers that will know him really well.○ One teacher for Maths and Science○ One teacher for English and History

● Collaborative practice between staff members○ Weekly year level meetings

HomeworkHomework is a valued part of the curriculum and is tailored to suit boys at different stages of their academic development:

● Reinforces and consolidates basic skills and newly introduced work● Focus on completion and achievement● Basic literacy and numeracy skills are a key element● Supports time organisation and independent problem solving skills● It is a student’s responsibility to record homework in their diary and check Google Classroom for

notes, tasks and due dates.● We encourage parents/carers to establish study habits and routines at home● Homework Club

○ Offered one afternoon 3.15 - 4.00 to allow students to work on their homework and ask for assistance if required.

Year 9 Camp

Year 9 Camp will take place at Bendleby Ranges (north of Orroroo, part of the Southern Flinders Ranges)in Week 6 of Term 2, 2016:

Rite Journey Programme

● Timing:○ Depart Tuesday morning and return Friday afternoon

● Purpose of Rite Journey - What does it take to be a good young man? (eg developing skills in problem solving, resilience, leadership and developing further outdoor education skills)

Restorative Practice

Restorative Practice is the Behaviour Management Policy of the College.

● Used to restore relationships between participants in an incident● Centered around our Student Values

Summer Sport Summer Formal

Student Drop Off / Pick UpThe following is important information for student drop off/pick up:

● Drop off / Pick up Times○ Drop off no earlier than 8:00am○ Pick up no later than 4:00pm (4:30pm for CEA Training)○ Library is open from 8:00am - 4:00pm with Staff Member○ There are Staff Members on Yard Duty from 8:20am

● Public Transport is a popular method of getting to and from school● Drop Off / Pick Up Locations:

○ Drive through Front Office Car park○ Drive through Back Car park near Tennis Courts○ Various Gates (see map on next slide).

ChromebookThe Chromebook is considered a part of the booklist, it is a tool for learning, the same as a Maths book or pencil case:

● Parents own the device, therefore can be used by students as a personal computer outside of school hours in discussion with their parents

● Responsibility of the students to have Chromebook chargedand to have them at school at all times

● Students are only to access their school account whilst at school● Consequences for ICT misuse

○ Students and Parents sign a ICT Responsible Use Agreement● Google Apps for education● Google Classroom as Learning Management System.● Cyber Safety - E-Smart Digital License

Learning Enrichment

● Sean Perry is Learning Enrichment Coordinator● Can be directly contacted at seanperry@shc.sa.edu.au● Learning Enrichment Coordinator role includes:

○ Administering Education Support Officers (ESOs) to various year levels○ Administering intervention opportunities (e.g. QuickSmart) to students with needs○ Working closely with LoLT and LoSW to support students with needs○ Working with LECs at various feeder schools to share information

Curriculum Extension Activities (CEAs)

Sacred Heart College offer a variety of Curriculum Extension Activities (CEAs):

● Adam Rice is CEA Sport Coordinator● Meagan Kozlowski is CEA Music Coordinator● Individual CEAs are coordinated by different staff members

○ Information is often disseminated electronically (via Google Drive or Intranet)○ Contact should be made with individual CEA coordinators

● CEA Seasons:○ Summer Season - Term 1 and Term 4○ Winter Season - Term 2 and Term 3
