2017/2018 Wrestling Season Junior Cougar Wrestling was established in 2007 to help promote the support of wrestling. The club is the main feeder program to supply wrestlers to Cherokee Trail High School Wrestling. Under Coach Buck’s leadership the club has grown and is now providing wrestlers with four or more year’s experience. The coaching staff has multiple years of wrestling knowledge and each coach has participated in the sport through a high school level. Many of the board members participated in wrestling as well and has either been around the sport or have children in the sport, which is a great advantage for planning and growth of the wrestlers and the club. We have many changes in the works and look forward to the future of this Program. With those changes came some new members to the board, a new president, a new vice president and many, many great ideas to grow our Junior Cougar Wrestling Program. With these new changes we believe we have a strong foundation of parents, coaches and wrestlers who are invested to this program and believe what it stands for. We ask for your patience during this transition and will need all of the help we can get from you as parents.

One of our biggest goals this season is to fundraise more as a team and get our name out in the community. We want to visit local businesses and ask for their support to build the program. We believe this will help our wrestlers work together and bring them closer as a unit and family. The money we fundraise we want to go towards new equipment such as team warm ups, team head gear and most importantly our end of season banquet and awards, etc. We want to create a unity with the Junior Cougars and the High School since we are the feeder program for Cherokee Trail Wrestling and hope to have the High School wrestlers helping with practice occasionally to build the friendships, brotherhood and support between all of our wrestlers.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN!!!! We will begin the season on Tuesday October 3, 2017 and practices will continue every Tuesday and Friday from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the Cherokee Trail wrestling room on the first level of the high school near the main gym. If your wrestler is in other sports we understand, but would like to ask that you get them registered before our first practice on October 3, 2017 so we can get an idea of how many wrestlers we need to order singlets and practice gear for. Please spread the word and ask your wrestler to bring any friends interested in wrestling. Have them reach out to us and participate in a practice to see if wrestling is something they would like to do. We would love to show them that the Junior Cougars are here to grow champions on and off the mat!!

This year the league we participate in has changed names and will now be known as Peak2Peak Wrestling League (P2P). A USA Wrestling limited Folk style membership at $15 annual fee is a requirement for all athletes participating in practice and covers all P2P events.COST:Registration $175 fee

Information on how to obtain a USA Wrestling Card is located on our Junior Cougar Wrestling Club Home Page; just click the link.

Wrestlers will be required to participate in as many P2P tournaments as possible, during the season. We want to express how important it is for the wrestlers, to not only be at practice to learn the moves our coaches are teaching, but to be able to execute the moves during a live match is significant to their growth and improvement.

Weigh Ins for all P2P Saturday Tournaments we attend will be held the Tuesday before the tournament and the $20 tournament fee will need to be paid to the Club Treasurer, Danielle Lopez before the end of practice. If wrestlers have not paid by the end of practice on Tuesday, they will not participate in the tournament, no exceptions!

If you have a child in the wrestling program and have wrestling experience and or coaching experience please see the Head Coach, Mike Lopez, we would love your assistance.

All coaches, and parents who want to be mat side with their wrestler will need to obtain a USA Wrestling Coaches Card, which also requires a background check. Just remember there are only 2 coaches allowed in each corner.
