Parent Orientation!
Morning Walk/RecessThere is no supervision before 8:05. Breakfast is served at 7:45.
No dogs are allowed on school property
Please send your child dressed appropriately for the weather.
We go outside rain or shine if the weather is above 0 degrees.
If your child is too sick to participate in recess then they are too sick to be at school. Recess is part of our curriculum and a great opportunity for building relationships between students.
Dismissal2:20 dismissal-Please make sure not to park in the bus parking or crosswalk. Please use the designated crosswalk when parking across the street. You are setting an example for your child.
Make sure to send a note or call if someone is picking up that is not on the authorized pick-up list.
Walkers and Bikers—must fill out authorization paperHelmets are mandatory
Reading GroupsStart at 8:30—be on time!!!
On their level
Rotate every 20 minutes (seatwork, reading center, writing center, word work, computers, phonics)
The Importance of Reading
The probability that a child who is a poor reader at the end of first grade will remain a poor reader at the end of fourth grade is 88%.
Read with your child every chance you get.
Handwriting, Spelling & WritingPlease practice handwriting at home.
All letters start at the top except d! Example is in packet but b is wrong.
We will have weekly spelling tests on Fridays.Spelling words can be found on the blog.
Writing in first grade will include inventive spelling using phonics skills. PLEASE do not correct your child’s spelling this will discourage them from writing.

Homework is a chance for the students to share and practice their learning at home.
