Parent Presentation Slide 2 Meet at your school at the normal time with all your luggage Bring a sack lunch with a drink, lunch is not provided A School Bus will be providing transportation to Camp Bloomfield First Day of Camp Slide 3 Slide 4 Camp Bloomfield Camp Bloomfield is located 2.5 miles up Mulholland Highway from Leo Carrillo State Beach, in Malibu. Slide 5 What is Outdoor School? For the last 38 years, 6 th grade students from the Conejo Valley have been spending a week at Outdoor School. Your student will be spending 4 days & 3 nights, away from home, learning about the natural surroundings they live in. Students learn the science of the area by taking hikes led by experienced Naturalists and participating in activities during their stay. Slide 6 Outdoor School Program The students are instructed in the following areas : Astronomy Ecology Geology Oceanography Zoology Slide 7 Outdoor School Staff The Outdoor School Staff consists of : Coordinator Assistant Coordinator 2 - Boy Head Cabin Leaders Girls Head Cabin Leader 9 Naturalists Classroom Teachers 2 LVNs 12 16 Volunteer High School Counselors Slide 8 Daily Schedules Slide 9 Daily Schedule Slide 10 Evening Programs Day One and Two: Night Hike Day Three: Campfire Slide 11 Cabins Each cabin holds about 15 students and one - two counselors. The cabins are heated, with bunk-beds, electricity, and bathrooms. The bathrooms have sinks, showers, and flush toilets. The cabins are installed with fire alarms, smoke detectors, and a telephone system to the camp office. Slide 12 All meals are prepared by the Camp Bloomfield kitchen staff. Vegetarian entres are provided, as well as meals for any special dietary needs. Students receive breakfast, lunch, a snack, and dinner each day. There is no lunch on first day. Food or snacks of any kind are not permitted in the cabins. This includes candy. Meals Slide 13 A Typical Menu Breakfast : Orange Juice, Assorted Cold Cereal, Hot Rice Pudding, Scrambled Eggs served with Sausage Links and Roasted Red Potatoes Lunch : Soup du Jour, Tossed Salad, Chicken Burger served with Potato Chips and Ice Cream Cup for Dessert Dinner : Soup du Jour, Caesar Salad, Rotisserie Chicken served with Seasoned Potatoes, Buttered Corn, Dinner Roll and Apple Crisp for Dessert Menu Slide 14 Scenes from Camp Slide 15 Sack Lunch for the first day (with a drink) 3 Days Worth of Clothes Jacket or Sweater Jeans or Long Pants Raincoat (Please!) Extra Pair of Shoes Bathing Suit Sleeping Bag / Pillow / Sheet Luggage: Suitcase or Duffel Bag (easier) Hat & Sunscreen Water Bottle or Canteen Camera and Film (optional) School Rules Apply For Clothing What to Pack Slide 16 Electronic Games or Toys ( old-fashioned games are fine.. cards, chess, checkers, etc. ) Music Players ( no CDs, MP3, Radios, etc. ) Food, Gum, or Candy Money / Valuable Items Cell Phones they dont work at camp Same Policy as Your School ( if you cant bring it to school, you cant bring it to Outdoor School ) What Not to Pack Slide 17 Lunch is provided in camp on the last day Students will return to school by 1:30 pm Last Day of Camp Slide 18 Cost The cost for Outdoor School is $225 for each student.
