Parents,
This letter is to inform you that CCISD will continue summer school classes as scheduled.
Recently the Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath announced that the third administration
of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) would be canceled for fifth and
eighth grade students. A passing grade on the STAAR test is one of the requirements for students to
advance to the next grade. Due to ongoing reporting issues with the state’s testing vendor, the
Commissioner announced that the state will be removing student consequences attached to
STAAR for fifth and eighth-grade students for the 2015-2016 school year.
At the end of the school year, CCISD asked students that were not successful on the first two STAAR
assessments for 2016, attend summer school to prepare for the third administration. In addition,
students were also registered for summer classes if they did not make a passing grade on their course
work for the year. CCISD has decided to continue to support students who need assistance, as
evidenced by STAAR and/or course work. This instruction is designed to make sure that students are
prepared for the upcoming academic year. The second summer session for high school students was
not affected by the Commissioners decision and will continue on schedule beginning July 5th. End of
Course testing for high school students will also be administered as planned.
We value the partnership of parents, students and educators and feel that your child will benefit from
our summer classes. If you have additional questions please contact your summer school
administrator. Campus administrators will communicate our next steps in determining grade placement.
Thank you for your continued support.
