DCP154.0813 What is Parent Support? The Parent Support service works with hard to reach parents of school aged children up to 18 years who are involved in: y antisocial behaviour y criminal activity y truancy (only if in combination with one or both of the above behaviours). Parent Support is targeted at parents who find it hard to ask for help, or who may have had trouble working with other services. What will Parent Support do? A Parent Support Worker will work with parents in the home for up to six months to help them regain control of their child’s behaviour. This may include: y working with parents to improve their relationship with their child y supporting parents to increase their parenting skills and confidence y providing ideas of new ways for parents to communicate with their child y helping parents to learn new discipline techniques y working with the child (if appropriate) to ensure that they behave appropriately and attend school regularly. The case worker will work with the parents to develop a Responsible Parenting Agreement outlining the roles and responsibilities of the parents, Parent Support and, where appropriate, other agencies involved. Parent Support will work collaboratively with agencies such as Corrective Services, Education and Police, offering a coordinated service response to families. What is Parent Support?
