Nature vs Nurture We believe that parenting is the number

one influence on a child's success or failure in life is based on Nurture.

We believe this because genetics does NOT affect your ability to learn or become successful in life.

Athletic ability If your Mom or dad was an athlete you could be brought up

as one too. This is because if your parents were into sports they will

want you to be into sports. This does NOT determine how good or bad you are at a

sport. “For instance, NBA great Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers is

an un-athletic, skinny person who overcame leg deformities as a child that prevented him from walking. He had to wear leg braces for several years until his leg problems were corrected enough for him to start walking again. Eventually, Miller went on to play in the NBA for 13 seasons, while setting the record for most 3-point shots made (Beyond the Glory: Reggie Miller 2004). Therefore, in my opinion, Miller was not a “born” athlete. I feel that he worked hard to develop his skill, and make it into the NBA.”

Perspective If your parents were born into a culture

when you were younger there is a high possibility that you will have the same outlook as well.

“A child born in the West with Asian parents who were born in Asia will more often than not take on the culture predominant in the country they live rather than that of their parents.”

Decisions Being taught right from wrong can strongly

impact the type of choices you make in life based on how you were raised and your personality.

“As someone heavily influenced by existentialists such as Jean-Paul Sartre, I have a strong conviction that everything boils down to personal responsibility. Even your personality, I would say, is to a large degree a result of decisions you make.”

Learning ability You learn based on how your parents expect you to

learn in school. Example: if you live with one parent and they push

you to get good grades you have a higher possibility to be successful in school

Example: if you live with a parent that doesn’t care about how you do in school and doesn’t push you then they will end up failing or dropping out.

“Intelligence can also be nurtured or stifled according to childhood circumstances. A brilliant child who was never encouraged could easily wind up holding many extremely stupid and idiotic beliefs.”

How you present yourself If your mom is ratchet then you may dress ratchet

as well (: If you were grown up to have nice clothes, hair

done, being clean, and having a good appearance, that’s how your going to always be.

If you grew up with parents that were dirty and didn’t take care of themselves then there is a possibility that you will present yourself the same.

“parents have dressed and cleaned you well, you will have the habit of thinking that’s how you should always present yourself.”

Personality If your surrounded by outgoing personalities

you’ll have the ability to be outgoing also. Example: if your parent or guardian is mean

and abusive towards you will have that aggressive attitude towards others.

“A naturally aggressive person might be made more passive by peaceful parents, while a naturally passive person might be forced to turn aggressive due to harsh circumstances.”

Work ethic If you were raised in an environment where

there was constant hard work in the family you will have that trait in your life.

Being a hard worker from the beginning will give you opportunity to be successful in the end.

“An intelligent child chooses not to study much and work too hard, and as a result never becomes as smart as she could have been.”

The final outcome How you are raised in life will have a huge impact on

who you are as a person. “Even in high school I knew enough about the

subject to inform my parents, when they yelled at me, that if they didn't like the way I was turning out they had no one to blame but themselves: they had provided both my heredity and my environment.”

“Parents already have power over the sort of people their children will turn out to be, says the journalist. He means, because parents provide the environment. The nurture.”
