PRINCIPAL’S WORDS What a week of activities at Mareeba State High School. The District Athletics Carnival has been completed with some outstanding results by our students. It is great to see the teamwork happening when we are competing as a whole school.
The Performance Spectacular is obviously the big event this week. The amount of work that has gone into preparations is a credit to all staff and students involved. I continue to be amazed at the work done by our teachers who have fully committed to the project from the end of last year. We have some incredible staff at Mareeba High. I am looking forward to attending the performance on Saturday and see the great talent we have at our school.
Mareeba has a great ability to get our students involved in extra curricula activities. For me as a Principal, I encourage our students to participate in different events. It makes the lives of each person fuller. The commitment to academic excellence along with the involvement in cultural, sporting and community events continues to define us as a great school.
In the near future, our Year 12 Leaders will release a further recording to assist in the fight against depression. It is wonderful to see such a committed and community minded group of student leaders.
Mareeba State High School is a school that we all should be proud of. I know as a Principal, I certainly am. Scott Whybird—Principal

CERT II RESOURCE & INFRASTRUCTURE Year 12 students enrolled in the second course of Cert II Resource & Infrastructure, packed their bags last weekend and headed to camp on Monday for three days of practical learning and fun at ‘Cadagi Camp’ in Speewah with Training provider ‘Australasian Drilling Institute’. Students worked in teams and individually to complete practical ses-sions including Mapping & Navigation and Fire Safe-ty. While on camp, students got to catch up with former Mareeba State High School and current ADI Trainer Netia Brook, who also attended the camp. All students thoroughly enjoyed the camp and are well on their way to completing this founda-tion course for the Mining and Construction Indus-tries.
