Dear parents,Your child is starting school. You may be asking yourself: what does this mean for us as parents? This leaflet should answer your questions.

As the parents, you are the school’s most important partners in your child’s edu-cational journey. This means

providing ongoing support, from helping to pack their school bag and providing healthy snacks to asking about and helping with homework. And this necessitates regular communication with the teachers about your child’s learning progress. You are also invited to get involved with other parents on the class’s parent body.

School and parents together: we all want the best for your child. The more we communicate, the more we are likely to achieve this.

I would like to wish you a good start to school life with your child!

Frauke Heiligenstadt Lower Saxony Minister of Education
