Burks Communication Folder

Each student at Burks Elementary has been provided with a blue folder that serves as a means of providing parents with communication that is vital to the

overall success of Burks students! Parents, please review the contents of your child’s

blue folder and sign it each night. Providing parents with quality

communication is a priority at Burks. This is one way that we intend to ensure that parents understand and know what occurs

at school daily.

Greetings Burks Eagles!

Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!  We are looking forward to a year full of wonderful learning opportunities across all grade levels.  This year our motto is "No Excuses, Expect Excellence!"  

Your students will be expected to do their personal best in all they do including both academics and behavior.  Our teachers are

prepared to offer engaging and rigorous learning opportunities that will require each and every student to work hard and never

give up.  We invite you to partner with us and help your child achieve their potential by reviewing the blue communication folder

every night and signing it, reading with your child and helping them to see that math, reading and science are all around them in

their lives.

Hey Burks Parents!!!:)

Parents are a critical factor in children’s educational success because they are a child’s first

and best teachers. Research has shown that children whose parents are involved in their

education perform at higher levels than those whose parents are not involved.

So we encourage parents to get involved in a

variety of ways. Parents can make sure children understand the importance of education, and they

can help children learn outside of school. One of the most important things that you can do is Read. Read to your child. Read with your

child. Let your child see you reading every day, so that he or she understands the importance of

learning to read well.

We know that if the parents and teachers work together, every child at Burks will be successful!

September 14th is Grandparents Day at Burks Elementary! We invite all grandparents to come and have lunch with your student! The lunch schedule is

listed below.

Did you know that Burks is a Healthy Zone

School?

Burks was the first school recognized as a Healthy Zone school last year! This initiative is aimed at fighting childhood obesity by creating healthy environments at school and by teaching

students about nutrition, exercise and other factors that contribute to a healthy lifestyle. So, parents join us in this initiative by sending healthy snacks and lunch to school and by incorporating

family active fitness time at home.

misdGo offers students, parents, and anyone interested in the McKinney Independent School District access to a comprehensive suite of apps

developed to provide timely and helpful school and district information. The app provides tools like lunch menus and maps to schools. It also provides access to

critical student information including password protected parent access to student attendance,

grades, progress reports, and assignments. You can even watch highlights from football games, theater

and musical performances, and high school graduations! This app is available for download on

Android, iPhone and Blackberry phones.

Health Tip From Nurse Cook!

In order to minimize the number of children that are ill, we ask you to please adhere to

the following guidelines:

•  Your child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

•  Your child should have no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to

school.

•  If your child has a communicable disease, you must submit a note from the doctor

for re-admittance.

¡Hola Padres de Burks!!!:)

Los padres son un factor crítico en el éxito educativo de los niños porque ellos son los primeros y mejores profesores de un niño. La investigación

ha mostrado que los niños cuyos padres están implicados en su educación funcionan en niveles más

altos que aquellos cuyos padres no están involucrados.

Entonces animamos a los padres a participar en

varias formas. Los padres pueden asegurarse que los niños entienden la importancia de la educación, y ellos pueden ayudar a los niños a aprender fuera de la escuela. Una de las cosas más importantes que

usted puede hacer es Leer. Lea a su niño. Lea con su niño. Deje a su niño le vea leyendo cada día, de

modo que él o ella entiendan la importancia de aprender a leer bien.

¡El Burks era la primera escuela reconocida como una escuela de Zona Sana el año pasado! Esta

iniciativa es apuntada a enfrentamientos contra la obesidad de infancia creando ambientes sanos en la escuela y enseñando a estudiantes sobre nutrición,

ejercicio y otros factores que contribuyen a un estilo de vida sano. De este modo, los padres se afilian a

nosotros en esta iniciativa enviando a bocadillos sanos y almuerzo a la escuela e incorporando la familia

tiempo de buena forma física activo en casa.

misdGo ofrece una vasta gama de aplicaciones a estudiantes, padres y gente interesada en obtener

información acerca del Distrito Escolar de McKinney. La aplicación misdGo puede ser bajada en telefonos inteligentes como Android, iPhone y

Blackberry. Y los padres pueden accesar información de los estudiantes como las

calificanciones, tareas, eventos escolares, etc.

¡Consejos de Salud de la Enfermera!

A fin de minimizar el número de niños que están enfermos, la sugerimos que se adhiera a las pautas

siguientes:

•  Su niño debe estar libre defiebre durante 24 horas antes de volver a la escuela.

•  Su niño no debe tener vómitos o diarrea durante 24 horas antes de volver a la escuela.

•  Si su niño tiene una enfermedad contagiosa, usted debe presentar una nota del doctor para

ser re-admitido en las escuela.
