Christmas Concert, a Great Success

The annual Christmas Concert was held in the school on Thursday evening and nearly 50 students from Years 9 and above (with a few talented Year 8 steel panners!) provid-ed an evening of stunning performances, ranging from a Chopin Prelude, to beauti-ful vocal solos and big and exciting Steel Pan pieces. Our hardworking and talented students can be extremely proud of these wonderful nights.

Church Concert Tradition Revived

Students from Years 7 and 8 enjoyed a Win-ter Concert in the Chiswick Parish Church of St. Nicholas last Wednesday, reviving a tradition that was dropped by the school 15 years ago.

The school orchestra conducted by maes-tro Ms. Raven played brilliantly. The sound was tight, tuneful and in time. They started with a complicated suite from the opera Carmen and finished off with a delightful version of ‘Walking in the Air.’

Two boys, Dylan Jobar and Robert Bau-tista, still with treble voices, wowed their audience with their soul style solo sing-ing whilst two girls, Georgia Sow-Favell and Mia Camara, sang a jazzy duet ‘Let it Snow’ in true Vaudeville style.

The new year 7 steel pan group only play-ing together since September competently performed ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ as the audience clapped along.

Years 7 and 8 were then treated to a top notch performance of a Henry Mancini number arranged by Mr. Hickson. The school jazz band demonstrated the musi-cals skills that the younger students could

aspire to.

Finally, Year 7 students from four classes joined together to sing the Circle of Life to end a memorable evening.

‘It was great to see so much talent in the younger years,’said Mr. Ryan. ‘ Thank you so much to the students for performing and to Ms. Raven and Mr. Hickson for all their hard work in preparing them so well.’

The Year 11 Business BTEC group were treated to firsthand business knowledge and a round of free soft drinks at the Coca Cola factory in Edmonton last week.

They learnt about how soft drinks were made, produced, packaged and marketed. Unfortunately they did not get to learn the secret formula behind the Coca Cola drink, though they were given a presentation on the company’s history.

‘We learnt that they did not just produce Coca Cola but other drinks like Doctor Pepper,’ said Abdi Qasim, a student on the

visit. ‘We also took a walk around the facto-ry to witness their work. The visit has given us lots of material for our coursework.’

Overall the visit was enjoyed by all and the Coca Cola company congratulated the stu-dents on their professional behaviour.
