COASTAL , WETLAND AND RIVERINE STRUCTURES

SintexTubes are designed for use along coastal shorelines, stream banks and wetland perimeters for protection against storm, current and other erosive forces . They are also used as river diversion structures or bridles and for fl ood control .When used along the shorelines our high performance tubes are fi lled with sand or dredged material and installed to shield against wave action, high tides and currents. When covered, geotextiles tubes create a resilient core for vegetated dunes to protect upland properties and infra-structures from erosion and storm damages. They can also be placed perpendicular to the shoreline, as jetty or groin, to redirect or trap sediment ( beach nouri-shment ).

For the installation please refer to our “ SintexTube installation procedure “

SINTEX TUBESintexTube is an innovator in the development of construction pro-ducts for hydraulic projects in the sea or in the rivers and for waste management

• Shorelines protection , beach nourishment, river bank construction or restoration.

• Dredged sediments management.

• Polluted slurry dewatering.

Carefully manufactured and sewn , geotextiles tubes are hydraulically fi l-led with sand or other thin particles to provide an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to conventional hard armor structures like concrete blocks or rock . In shoreline protection applications , tubes pro-vide an effective structure to dissipate storm and wave energy and defl ect erosive hydraulic forces . These geotextiles tubes are also used to dewater dredged sediments and high moisture content sludge , providing a quick and cost-effective alter-native to traditional disposal systems .In each case SintexTube have far less impact on the environment than

conventional methods .

DREDGED MATERIAL MANAGEMENT

SintexTube /D is an ideal solution for dredged material management. They greatly reduce dewatering time and dispo-sal costs and provide opportunities for the benefi cial reuse of dredged sediments.Dewatering operations are cleaner because geotextile tubes dewater dredged material faster and retain fi ne-grained solids and many contaminants better than when the material is placed in lagoons or detention basins. With SintexTube /D the dewatering process can be completed in a matter of days , depending on sediment characteri-stics . Once dewatered , the dredged material has reduced weight and volume and is more cost-effectively transported to a permanent disposal site.Tubes can increase the capacity and safety of dewatering areas. By stacking the tubes on top of one another the space is maximized and construction and acquisition costs are minimized.

SintexTube /D can be used to dewater sediments dredged from channels, harbors, rivers, detention basins, ponds and lakes.

Because the tubes structure can add strength to poor quality soil material, they are important to successful envi-ronmental restoration project involving the benefi cial reuse of dredged sediments.Additionally, dredge-fi lled tubes can been used in port redevelopment, bluff protection and embankment restoration .

SLUDGE DEWATERING

SintexTube/D and containment systems such as large dewatering bags provide cost-effective solutions to diffi cult environmental problems involving contaminated and high moisture content slurry.High moisture content material such as industrial waste , sludge from water treatment plants, agricultural waste, mine tailings and dredged sediments all require dewatering process before the fi nal disposal, but possess varying mecha-nical and hydraulic properties .SintexTube/D provides to reduce the volume and the moisture of the slurry, getting a drier and more compact material.

Once dewatered, the retained sludge can be more easily moved to a landfi ll, getting a more cost-effective disposal of the waste solid part.

The most part of Contaminants ( including heavy metals, PCB’s and PAH,s ) will be effectively retained within tubes , despite the fi ne-grained nature of the slurry.

Of course a waterproof geo-membrane must to be laid on the base, under the tubes, to collect the water that leaks from them and to move it to the water treatment plant.

Once a the tube is placed over, a small dredge with a discharge of 20 – 25 cm and a power of 150 -200 HP ( 200- 300 m3/hour ) with hydraulic cutterheads is recommended for fi lling.

Anyway a fl occulent polymer must to be added to the slurry to separate the solid particle from the wa-ter and so get a faster , more effective and regular dewatering action.

TYPES OF SINTEXTUBE

Geosintex offers a large range of SintexTube and SintexTube/D :

SintexTube PP 200 :

for shoreline application , made from Polypropylene woven geotextile with tensile strength of 200 kN/m in both direc-tions, diameter from 1,5 to 5 m and length from 10 to 50 m. SintexTube PES 175 Comp :

for shoreline application, made from Polyester woven geotextile coupled with nowoven, with tensile strength of 175 kN/m in both directions, diameter from 1,5 to 5 m and length from 10 to 50 m .

SintexTube /D PP 70 : for dewatering application, made from Polypropylene woven geotextile with tensile strength of 70 KN/m in both direc-tions , large pore size and good permeability, circumference from 12 to 25 m and length from 10 to 50 m.

SintexTube /D PP 90/110 : for dewatering application, made from Polypropylene woven geotextile with tensile strength of 90 KN/m in MD direc-tion and 110 KN/m in CMD, large pore size and good permeability, circumference from 18 to 38 m and length from 10 to 50 m.

All the seams are made with special sewing machine at 6 parallel stitches , that assures a strength from 50% to 80 % of the fabric strength .

Geosintex, by his staff of engineering and technical professional, can review specifi cations and project information, assist the customers with design questions and suggest the most appropriate solution with SintexTube
